New paper alert! This is likely the final paper from Akshada’s PhD—a story of science, perseverance and teamwork, by cells and humans. We ask: how can cells respond to a mechanical cue beyond their direct sensing range?

Our study shows that a buried rigid inclusion triggers a density-dependent, actomyosin-driven relay of directional cell migration. As cells sense and transmit forces through the substrate, this response extends progressively beyond the region immediately surrounding the inclusion

A new study from researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, led by Prof. Abhijit Majumder, uncovers how strain fields produced by embedded inhomogeneities within biomaterials influence cell alignment, reshaping our understanding of cell behaviour in development, disease and tissue engineering.

Why do blood vessels reach wounds, or cells in the eye form perfect radial patterns? A new research from @iitbombay sheds light on how cells feel tiny mechanical cues in their environment, like tension or stretching , and use that to organise themselves.

Cells can sense mech cues. Bt can they sense pre-strain if soft tissue is deformed? Hw long can the signal travel?
In our latest paper in @CellReports Phy-Sci, @Akshada2511 shows how rigid structures in soft gels may result into long-range (~40 cell length) patterning. (1/2)
🚀 Exciting News! 🚀
Our latest research, "Inhomogeneous Substrate Strain-Driven Long-Range Cellular Patterning," is out now in Cell Reports Physical Science!
We reveal how pre-strain gradients in hydrogels guide long-range cell alignment—opening new doors for tissue engineering!

Attention all scientists and researchers!
Do you use Fetal Bovine Serum in your cell culture research? Are you tired of the high costs and ethical issues with FBS? More importantly....are you looking for an alternative?
Introducing VitaPhil - a cost-effective and cruelty-free alternative to FBS.
As part of our commitment to improving scientific research and animal welfare, we are excited to launch our beta program. For a limited time, we are giving away free VitaPhil for one year to eligible participants in exchange for feedback on the product. This is your chance to be among the first to try out VitaPhil and help shape its future development.
Join us in paving the way for a more ethical and sustainable future in the cell culture industry. If you are interested, reach out to Miriam at [email protected]
