Wildfire risk doesn’t end when the season does. Any time there is a fire burning on the landscape, there is a risk that it can spread. Safe burning practices are always in season. Fire permits are required in the Forest Protection Area until October 31.

Fighting wildfires takes teamwork. Whether in the air or on the ground, crews work together to identify hazards, stay aware of changing conditions and make decisions that keep everyone safe. We can't do it alone. Success is a team effort.

The public plays an important role when it comes to detecting wildfires. Wildland firefighters were dispatched to this hunting site after recieving a call about an unattended campfire. If you see smoke, call 310-FIRE to report it. Your help does make a difference.

Hay bales, wood chips, compost, grass clippings and other organic materials can generate heat as they break down and may ignite on their own. Check piles regularly for heat, smoke, steam or unusual odours that may signal overheating.

Remember to use caution when working and recreating outdoors at this time of year. If you have a campfire, remember to never leave it unattended. Always soak the ashes, stir them and soak them again to ensure the fire is out.
