Elon Musk's opposition to Puerto Rican statehood isn't new. He told Joe Rogan the exact same thing last year. In fact, he cited the "fear" of DC and Puerto Rico statehood as the reason he got so involved in the 2024 election. youtu.be/sSOxPJD-VNo?si=0yC8…

None of this should be new, because "Puerto Rican statehood will destroy America" has been a frequent MAGA talking point for the past decade. I wrote about it for @LatNewsletter more than two years ago, and it's only intensified since. thelatinonewsletter.org/p/re…

One of the most perverse consequences of colonialism is the fact that so many of our people feel compelled to beg for acceptance and inclusion from the likes of Donald Trump and Elon Musk, whose racist disdain for Puerto Ricans is crystal clear. As the kids say: couldn't be me.
Respectfully, @elonmusk : Puerto Rico is conservative; voters have overwhelmingly backed statehood four times. We have a Republican government. It’s time for statehood. Puerto Rican U.S. voters want it. I’m a Republican woman, and I do too @CidEloisa

Washington, D.C. should be a state. It is an American city whose residents are denied basic political rights. Puerto Rico is a Latin American nation invaded and colonized by the United States for 128 years. It should be independent. Read more: freepuertorico.substack.com/…

Republicans sometimes win Puerto Rican elections because they’re pro-statehood. Not because they’re conservative. In a symbolic 2024 presidential ballot on the island, Trump lost by 50 points. Puerto Rico would’ve been the most Democratic state in the Union.
yeah - Republicans that have strong coalitions within the Hispanic electorate, including Puerto Ricans, need to stop parroting this dumb take. it's not true that Puerto Rico would become a "Democrat" state, and if that were the argument, then we could've argued Arizona, Alaska, and Hawaii away. and yet here we are. Republicans can compete for Puerto Rican voters. write them off, and you’re handing Democrats the advantage you claim to fear. Puerto Rico has as much capacity to become a Republican state as Michigan. enough with the bullshit already. signed, a Puerto Rican American proudly still supporting Trump and the GOP.

"UK and USA are corruption free" is maybe one of the stupidest things ever said. But par for the course for Puerto Rican statehood supporters, I'm afraid. As ever, this kinda stuff is just white man's burden with a (bad) coat of paint.

Easy relative to any Spanish speaking country Uk USA Australia Canada Are corruption free Not to mention higher standard of living stability stronger economies

His approval rating is going to go through the roof among Millennials who are still trying to hoop even though they objectively suck now and maybe always did. And we are legion.

Alas, “Woke 1.0” remains a useful shorthand” to describe, well, this.

What Angie Nixon (and all U.S. leaders) should say about Cuba is that it's not her job to tell Cubans what kind of government they should have. It's to advocate for the removal of the illegal, immoral, and deadly U.S. embargo that "dictatorially" violates Cuba's sovereignty.

Every age has fundamental questions that we all must ask ourselves in order to live a moral life. One of this age's central questions is: "Do I just want to post about this or do I care enough to do something about it?" If we're honest, most of us won't like our own answer.

If you don't want ICE roaming the streets of Puerto Rico, you have to support our nation's independence. It's that simple. Our official statement on the recent ICE raids on our land and a call to action for our liberation!
