SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

“Let’s frighten the dragons,” I said to Pooh
“That’s right,” said Pooh to Me
“I’m not afraid,” I said to Pooh,
And I held his paw and I shouted, “Shoo!
Silly old dragons!” - and off they flew
“I wasn’t afraid,” said Pooh, said he,
“I’m never afraid with you.”

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of the magnificent Sir Patrick Stewart, aged 86. With a distinguished Shakespearean career and beloved by audiences of all ages for his many unforgettable roles, he was one of Britain’s finest and most commanding actors.
We have had the pleasure of showing Tobe Hooper’s Lifeforce (1985), featuring Sir Patrick in one of his many memorable screen appearances.
A remarkable talent whose work will continue to be enjoyed for generations. He will be greatly missed.

Saddened to hear of the loss of the stunning Elke Sommer - it marks the passing of a truly luminous presence in cinema, a woman whose radiant beauty, sparkling blue eyes, and irresistible European allure brought glamour and sophistication to the screen. #RIP

Photographed in colour 111 years ago, this young lady is Mademoiselle Paquin, a young student at the domestic school in Nancy, France, during the Great War. I have cleaned-up this charming Autochrome portrait which was taken in May 1915 by Auguste Leon - and you would be correct in supposing that she was a classmate of the girl whose portrait I posted yesterday. This photo was taken in colour using an early colour glass-plate process and isn't colourised.

Two years since my lad Flynn went OTRB he was the skinniest bounciest Spanna I’ve ever known, he always had to do everything to the absolute max. Taken far too young by cancer 🌈💔😢 He was definitely ADHD with OCD as well, really miss his complete zest for everything 🥰
