Th ECOMIX project - 1 of 5 research projects in our UK Freshwater Quality Programme - is featured in the @YorkshireiCASP winter bulletin 26.
Led by @AlistairBoxall @UniOfYork it is assessing ecological impacts at 350 locations across 9 Yorkshire river catchments. 👇
Happy New Year to all our followers.
Read about exciting projects we have been working on and what's coming up in 2026 in our winter bulletin.

Excited to say my first paper has been published in the Annual Review of Environment and Resources! 📚
This came off the back of the time I spent working with @wwf_uk.

I have had a fun second day with Will Templeton. We spent most of the day on campus developing imagery of the ECOMIX sampling kit and the laboratory work. We also fitted in a trip to the river Foss.

I had a lovely afternoon at the University graduation ceremony today watching @AleBou4 being awarded a well-deserved PhD for her research into the environmental risks of pharmaceuticals. BBC Radio 1's @gregjames received an honorary doctorate and gave an excellent speech.

It's nice to see that our paper in pharmaceutical pollution in the English National Parks has been selected as one of the exceptional papers in ET&C for 2024. doi.org/10.1093/etojnl/vgaf1…
Having a great time with Angie on our last adventure collecting the very last automatic sampler for the ECOMIX project #freshwater #pollution #mexicanasenuk #womeninSTEM

Congrats to Zheng Fang on his latest PhD paper. This one shows that #microplastics can reduce the toxicity of salinity to #earthworms and that salinity is a more significant environmental challenge to earthworms than microplastics.

An excellent piece by Phoebe Weston in the Guardian today covering some of our initial findings from the @NERCscience ECOMIX project on chemical mixtures in Yorkshire's rivers. theguardian.com/environment/…

Presenting a poster today (P376) as well as in the pharmaceuticals interest group this afternoon! 📈
🌟 Another exciting day at #SETACVienna! Today, we’re diving into:
🔬 "Assessing In Silico Tools for Chronic Aquatic Ecotoxicity of Human Pharmaceuticals"
📊 "Optimizing ML Models for Soil & Sediment Sorption in Pharmaceutical Mobility"
Stay tuned! 🚀 #Ecotoxicology
Had a great time presenting some of my work on antibiotic mixtures and risk assessment of antibiotics in the world’s rivers 💊
Exited to be at #SETAC with some of the ecotox group at @YorkEnvironment. Come see Lalita’s and Ben’s posters about some of the work they’re doing on the ecotoxicity of various chemicals on algal species.
After a couple of days in Prague and Salzburg I’ve made it to SETAC Vienna!
I’m excited to present a poster and poster corner on Monday on our work monitoring and effects of UV-filters on diverse algal species as part of the ECOMIX project ☀️🧴
I’m also excited to present on Tuesday some of my PhD work on the evaluation of antibiotic mixtures through the SELECT assay and risk assessment of antibiotics in the world’s rivers! 🦠💊
There are also posters throughout the week, so keep an eye out! One of them is Martha’s work on the modelling of chemical mixtures for assessing the impact on freshwater biodiversity (3.15.P-Th240)

The @NERCscience ECOMIX project monitoring team met at the Merchant Adventurer's Hall on Monday to mark the end of our year long study on chemicals in Yorkshire's rivers. The team has collected around 1000 weekly composite samples resulting in more than 65000 data points.
