One of the best crime graphic novels is now getting the streaming treatment…and it looks pretty damn faithful to the spirit of Brubaker's and Phillips' masterpiece:

Russel Brand is a rapist.
I hope this verdict brings a little closure to his many victims. And I hope this verdict brings hope and courage to those who fear that speaking out will never amount to anything near a conviction.
I hope they throw the fucking book at him.
Yes!!!!!!
Russell Brand has been found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault in his London criminal trial.
The actor and comedian was found not guilty of two other rape charges and one count of attempted indecent assault. The jury took three days to reach their verdict following a three-week trial. His sentencing will be held on Monday.

Trump doesn’t think the results are a rejection of his leadership. Of course he doesn’t. That would require honesty and self-reflection. The man couldn't find either with a search warrant and a mirror.
BREAKING: President Trump congratulates Democrats on their midterm victories but makes one thing clear: He does not view the results as a rejection of his leadership.
“Congratulations to the Democrats. They did a good job. They’ve been looking for this one for 11 years, and they finally got it. But I don’t view it as a hit on me. I think we’ve done ... We’ve had the greatest two years in the history of the presidency.”

Straying from monoculture can be daunting because you fear it will be isolating and make you feel smaller within the universe, but it truly just makes your world bigger, more precise, more rich. Sit outside and watch and listen! Know yourself!

Just reemphasizing what many have said about becoming culturally literate outside the scope of film. Explore literature! Music! Plays! Learn about art history, get into color theory, hell, even watch older sitcoms!

David’s piece is fantastic, especially the discussion about the power dynamics in the industry and how most critics are barely scraping by. I don’t write many reviews these days. The assignments are few & far between. There are many talented writers but scarce funds to pay them.
i wrote about Taika Waititi's delusional and embarrassing Instagram post, and how it reflects a deeper problem about the impacts of social media on the entire artistic ecosystem:

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Alan Ritchson star in the official trailer for the new Christmas action comedy #TheManWithTheBag.
Streaming December 2 on Prime Video.
Daniella gives @chifilmfest's Latin American selection some TLC. I wish most of my fellow (Chicago) critics did the same.
For @InRO, I wrote a very special essay about the abundance of Latin American films at this year's @chifilmfest. I cover shared themes and ideas across *ten* features, representing Argentina, Mexico, Cuba, Peru, Costa Rica, Haiti, Brazil, and the U.S.
