New virus symbionts dropped in leafcutter ants. Two +#ssRNA #mycovirus strains:
#Leucoagaricus #gongylophorus tymo-like virus 1 (LgTlV1)
Leucoagaricus gongylophorus magoulivirus 1 (LgMV1)
Might even be mutualistic, we will see with more research!
As the dominant herbivores in the neotropics, the leafcutter ants cultivate a fungus to break down the plant biomass
We knew this symbiosis was composed of several players, pathogenic fungi, beneficial bacteria, etc
