Government of Ghana’s statement on the tragic killing of Javits Frimpong in the Bronx, New York.
I have spoken to the father of Javits, Mr. Thomas Frimpong and directly conveyed the condolences of the Government and people of Ghana.
On my instructions, officials of our Permanent Mission in New York have visited the family and coordinating with local authorities.
The Foreign Ministry will work tirelessly with US authorities to ensure justice is secured.
The family of Javits and his loved ones remain in our thoughts and prayers. May God grant his lovely soul a peaceful repose.
For God and Country 🇬🇭 🙏🏾

I went into the El Niño heat tracker. Ghana is projected at about 7,000 extra heat deaths from October to March, 12th in the world. The Met Agency put a warning in a PDF. Nobody else has said a word.

Alata isn’t a derogatory word. It has connections to slave trade era with Yuroba speaking people from Allada Kingdom, from what is now Benin.
They settled around Jamestown in Accra, in an area that came to be called Ngleshie Alata. So Alata first referred to a place and a group of people with that history, not to a bad word.
How Allada became Alata, I don’t know exactly, but that’s a normal occurrence in history, original names get twisted and changed in funny ways, for whatever reason it could be..

The future of #ArtificialIntelligence is not pre-determined. As a technology developed by human beings, its future depends on the choices we make. We therefore have the responsibility to guide, change and, when necessary, reject its applications. A reliable system that serves the human person is of greater value than one that is exceptionally powerful but whose consequences cannot be adequately foreseen or controlled.

One other insidious thing I’ve noticed with AI in knowledge work is that turnaround time expectations have significantly narrowed. A report or analytical work which the team would have previously required in a week, they’re now asking for by the next day.
The problem is that the expectation by itself becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy where you MUST now use AI to keep up with the superhuman deadlines (informed by the general expectation that you would use it).

Yesterday, @StatsGhana published its first edition of Ghana in Numbers. It brings together official data on population, health, education, the economy, governance and the environment in one report.
The report shows real progress, but also some challenges.
A Ghanaian born today can expect to live about 65 years, 25 years more than in 1960. Deaths among children under five fell from 111 per 1,000 births in 2003 to 40 in 2022. The share of people who are multidimensionally poor dropped from 31% in 2022 to 23% in 2025. Health insurance coverage jumped to 66% in 2025 after six flat years. More homes now have electricity (86%) and safe drinking water (92%) than ever before.
But the challenges are significant. Food insecurity went up again in 2025, to about 40% of the population, or 13 million people. The unemployment rate rose from 8.4% in 2017 to 12.8% in 2025. It's worse for young people: almost 1 in 3 of those aged 15 to 24 who want a job cannot find one.
Agriculture is about 22% of the economy but gets less than 1% of government spending. That matters when 4 in 10 people are struggling to get enough food.
The gains are also uneven. More than half the people in North East and Savannah are multidimensionally poor, compared with 9% in Greater Accra. A rural girl is almost twice as likely as an urban girl to become a mother before 20.
Some improvements for sure and yet more work to be done!

His name was Javits Frimpong. He was 15. An African immigrant, this hits so close to home. We come here carrying so much hope for a better life. To lose your child in the place you hoped they’d thrive is devastating. He deserved to grow up. My heart goes out to his family 💔

🇺🇸🇬🇭 A 15-year-old Ghanaian teen was FATALLY SHOT on his way to school in the Bronx, just one year after arriving in America.
He was shot in the abdomen near Crotona Park and died at the hospital.
His father believes bullying was behind the attack. Three days earlier, two students had been suspended for targeting his son.
A quiet kid who left Ghana for a better life is gone, and his dad is left trying to understand how a school fight ended with a gun.

Ok. Now? I know it's not ICE or Target. But this has to anger you. It's a young boy killed by thugs. But can we still get the rallies, the speeches? Damn these thugs. Let's protest them. Let's shut them down, all of them. Let's send a message that we won't have one of our kids die at the hands of another street terrorist on their way to school.
