The 51 Pegasi b Fellowship applications have opened for 2025, and Purdue is a new host institution!
If you are a final-year PhD or 1st- or 2nd-year postdoc interested in origins of life, prebiotic chemistry, or the search for life, my lab might be a fit!

Say you run a company and sell your products and only make enough revenue to pay for the manufacturing costs, but not the building, facilities, utilities, administration, accounting, sales, marketing, etc.
This is what this new policy does. It basically mandates failure.
Last year, $9B of the $35B that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) granted for research was used for administrative overhead, what is known as “indirect costs.” Today, NIH lowered the maximum indirect cost rate research institutions can charge the government to 15%, above what many major foundations allow and much lower than the 60%+ that some institutions charge the government today. This change will save more than $4B a year effective immediately.

New paper just released on ice deposits at Mars. Outstanding effort to combine various data sets at Mars. Key pts: ice can be found at lower latitudes which is key for human missions; includes a targeting map for a future Mars ice mapping radar mission.

Over 200 JPLers have lost everything. Every single project I work on includes at least one, most multiple. Everyone at JPL is affected, everyone is utterly heartbroken for our community.

This is a view I've personally never captured before: Mars reappearing from behind the Moon. It's a handheld telephoto (600mm) shot and cropped like crazy, but still it is what it is. So cool!

On Sunday, I had the immense honor of participating in the doctoral hooding ceremony of Dr. @riley_mcglasson!
We’ve had so many fun science adventures together over the last four years, and I know this is only just the start of amazing things we’ll continue to see from her!
I am honored to be at #AGU24 this week to accept the Greeley Early Career Award in Planetary Sciences. I feel so fortunate to get to be on this career path and am grateful to everyone who has opened doors for me along the way. Thank you!
I’m incredibly honored to have gotten to represent the 2024 Planetary Science section awardees along side these two amazing scientists, @SueSmrekar and @ltelkins !
Proud advisor moment! 🥲🥳 Riley started with me here at Purdue in August 2020 & I feel so grateful to have gone through the new PI adventure with her by my side! I can’t believe where the time has gone already, but she’s headed on to awesome things at her postdoc and beyond!👩🎓🪐
Congrats Dr. Riley McGlasson for a successful PhD defense with @PurdueEAPS! Her defense is titled "Exploring Radar Observations of Dusty Ice Layers on Mars Through Observations, Modeling, and Lab Experiments." She is advised by Prof. Ali Bramson. @AliBramson @riley_mcglasson
