While the UN Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) will cease operations, the @UN will continue to support Somalia through its resident agencies, funds & programmes, working in partnership with Somali authorities, the @_AfricanUnion & other international partners to advance peace, stability, human rights & sustainable development. I commend the progress achieved and the determination & resilience of the Somali people despite the many challenges they face. My profound gratitude goes to all who have served UNTMIS & its predecessor missions & I pay special tribute to the UN colleagues who lost their lives in the service of peace in Somalia. #UPDATE: Tensions Rise as Macawisley Fighters Enter Government Compound in Beledweyne, Somalia Tensions have escalated in #Beledweyne, in #Somalia’s Hiiraan region, after local Macawisley fighters reportedly took control of parts of the Lama-galay compound without reported clashes. According to eyewitnesses, the fighters, reportedly supported by local politicians and businesspeople, established positions around the regional administration headquarters, Liiqliqato Bridge and areas near Ugaas Khalif Airport. The developments come amid a leadership dispute involving Mohamed Hussein Mohamed, the disputed Hiiraan governor who rejected his dismissal by #HirShabelle authorities, and newly appointed Governor Muse Salad Weheliye. Reports indicate that Somali National Army personnel withdrew from certain positions without confrontation. Macawisley representatives maintain that their actions are not directed against federal troops but are intended to secure regional administrative offices. The mobilisation reportedly followed an announcement that HirShabelle's new Vice President, Abdifatah Hassan Afrah, planned to visit Beledweyne. The response of HirShabelle authorities and Somalia's federal government remains unclear.

Dozens of soldiers who defected from Baidoa have arrived in Awdiinle district in the Bay region and surrendered to the @Laftagareen side, citing their inability to tolerate what they described as abuses against civilians in areas under the administration.
