RIP. Georgia Sergeant Chris Fisher, who gave his life in the line of duty, is the 65th officer lost in 2026. Sergeant Chris Fisher was murdered when he was shot and killed outside the Meriwether County Inn at 5675 Spring Street in Warm Springs around 11:57 p.m. Sergeant Fisher was sitting in his patrol vehicle after completing a traffic stop when a man pulled alongside him and opened fire into his vehicle, killing him at the scene. The suspect fled the scene. The suspected gunman had been arrested and transported to jail by Sergeant Fisher less than a week earlier on felony marijuana charges, possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony, and obstruction of an officer through threats or violence. He was released less than 14 hours after being booked on a total bond of $10,000. Following a manhunt, the shooter was located and later died at a hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Sergeant Fisher began his public safety career at just 18 years old, serving as a jail officer with the Heard County Sheriff’s Office in November 2010. He later returned to the agency before joining the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, where he served as a deputy and investigator. He also served with the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office and was promoted to sergeant in 2025. In May 2026, Sergeant Fisher joined the Warm Springs Police Department and was promoted to sergeant less than two months later. Sergeant Fisher came from a law enforcement family. His father also served as a law enforcement officer. He is survived by his wife and two children. 🖤🙏💙🙏🖤
