Never mind that the number of trains on Indian Railways has tripled in the same period. So has the length of trains. From 8 to 24. However, track km on high density routes has not even doubled since then. Fares are lagging at a fraction of inflation adjusted numbers.
Brand new Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat connecting India's financial capital with its silicon valley runs at speed 69 kmph. Meanwhile, India's first Rajdhani Express, introduced in 1969, had an average speed of about 80-84 kmph.

This is what happens when you are utterly clueless. Mumbai metro is run by 4 different operators. Delhi metro is run by just one. Which Mumbai metro operator finances are listed here @zoru75

The new Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat sleeper leaves Bengaluru for the first time tonight. - The 3AC fare is 60-90% higher than other trains on this route. - Cuts down the journey to 16 hours. You save about 6 hours and sleep through most of it. Its already fully booked for the next couple of weeks! Next time someone says Indian consumers only buy on price, I will point at this train 🚆 People pay for time saved. Globally, and in India.

True. The addresses were misspelt, names misspelt, messed up, partly missing. The electoral database was like all other garbage dumps that one party used to love buzzing over.
Replying to @GabbbarSingh
As someone who dealt with voter lists for many elections, I can say the database was awful. Up to 30-40% deletion without hurting a single citizen will not surprise me. Deletion is not as criminal as @INCIndia projects. Continuation isn't as clandestine as @BJP4India projects.

Stopped reading at 'taxes keep going up'
1 in 7 rupees in India did not exist a year ago. M3 money supply grew 16% this year. Inflation, on paper, is 5.5%. This is the most under-discussed, persistent problem in the Indian economy. This 16% “hidden tax” is starting to show up everywhere: 1. Gold is up 17% in INR - almost exactly the M3 money supply increase. Interesting, right? 2. Domestic GST collections are up 15.8%. Also almost exactly the growth in money supply. The “record GST” is just taxing more money being printed. 3. GST on imports is up 42%, because the rupee fell 7.6%, on top of increased costs. We shouldn’t celebrate paying more tax on the same iPhone. 4. The most egregious one: 7.8% real GDP growth assumes prices across the whole economy rose just 2.3%. (Nominal GDP grew 10.3%. Use the 5.5% CPI instead and real growth is closer to 4.5%.) Does your lived experience validate a laughable 2.3% inflation? 5. The one thing that did NOT keep up is your portfolio. Since 1997, money supply is up 44x and the Sensex is up 20x. Put every INR you had into Indian stocks for 30 years and the money printer beat you by 2X. Taxes keep going up. Capital controls keep tightening. Inflation keeps going up. The structural problems, courts, land, labour and the cost of capital, stay exactly where they were, hidden under a nominal GDP number. We are printing like there’s no tomorrow and pretending nothing is wrong. Ludwig von Mises called inflation “the true opium of the people administered to them by anti-capitalist governments and parties.” Printing is the easiest way to keep welfare flowing and the headlines green without fixing a single structural problem. Inflation is the most immoral tax that we pay, without knowing we’re paying it.

Replying to @AlokPatel
I wish i could use better words but i choose to keep it simple. You think the capital cities are diff from their states, which they are not. States work as a whole unit, the poor states should be reminded their responsibility.

This is such a dimwit argument. These 'unheard villages' in the north have been filling many Rajdhanis, Shatabdis, Vande Bharats with their allegedly non existent disposable income.
Unheard villages which do not have disposable income to buy these tickets, will get a shiny HSR before the highly urban, tax generating South which can afford these tickets do. Warra Master stroke.

Many don't realise that those old and supposedly cheap services are in fact making huge losses for Indian Railways - approx 1 lakh crores a year that could be used elsewhere. IR does charity with such services, not business. That's why it gets away with low quality.
Genuine question. New Delhi - Patna Sampoorn Karnti express, no fancy name, just a simple superfast train takes 13hrs for 1000km. Why can't normal superfast train run on Bengaluru Mumbai route 1200km in 16hrs that a new Vande Bharat Train is needed at almost double fare to cover same distance in 16hr? Are we providing public service or purely doing business under fancy names?

Take this question to its logical conclusion. Why should the rich subsidize the poor? North or South. Why stop at the artificial state borders? Why should Bengaluru subsidize rural Karnataka? Why should Mumbai subsidize rest of Maharashtra?
No one has an answer to Nikhil Kamath's question: What do we gain from the Indian Union? We generate wealth, it gets taken to feed North India, and we get ZERO benefits in return. If there's no reward for our excess contribution, why stay in this Union?

The poison is being called the antidote because it looks to them like the only path to power.

Even gains are guaranteed when you make everyone poor. Essentially, force Michael Bloomberg to give away all of his wealth, donate Bloomberg to his employees
C'mon Bloomberg, what is this headline? Gains are ALWAYS uneven! This is why I hate the inequality discourse started by Piketty and Zucman. Living standards for the population are correlated with poverty reduction. You can quantify this in lesser infant deaths, lesser maternal mortality and longer life expectancy. A rising tide lifts ALL boats. The only times where it doesn't, is if an extractive state keeps all the surplus for itself.

Such a study will miss the reality that always was enormous latent demand for comfortable travel. But our socialist netas and babus drove this set away. Vote bank wants subsidy trains. All sins of productivity, efficiency are forgiven when serving this category. Win win for all.
I hope someone does a study on how much Vande Bharat waiting list and occupancy rate shot up after US-Iran war led to higher plane ticket prices..

In-case you missed India in 2011: Nearly 58 out of every 100 people lived below the World Bank's lower-middle-income poverty threshold. India in 2023: That number had fallen to approximately 16 out of every 100 people. India in 2011: More than one-fourth of the population lived in extreme poverty. India in 2023: Extreme poverty had declined to just 2.6%. These comparisons reveal the magnitude of India's transformation in little more than a decade. The World Bank's October 2026 brief estimates that 496 million Indians moved above the $4.20/day poverty line during this period. Behind this decline are stronger household consumption, expanding employment and social protection measures that helped support vulnerable populations. India's development story becomes even more powerful when we compare where the country stood in 2011 with where it stood in 2023. The distance travelled is extraordinary.

For 75 years, we were told this is noble, virtuous. Jholachhaps still glorify and dream of restoring India to this. Except for themselves. The Left suffer the exclusive clubs, the filthy rich for the Good Fight. Medha, Teesta, YoYa and more all have endured so much for the poor.

This is the same story that every low quality, parasitic government run entity sells to the taxpayer. That the public must continue funding the grift in their own interest. Every single govt entity.
🙏 A HEARTFELT THANK YOU, SHRI RAHUL GANDHI JI @RahulGandhi Leader of Opposition @INCIndia The IDBI Bank family sincerely thanks Shri Rahul Gandhi ji, Hon’ble Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, for standing with IDBI Bank employees and supporting their legitimate concerns. IDBI Bank is not just a bank; it is a legacy of nation-building, public trust, and social responsibility. A profitable public institution built with public money deserves transparency, accountability, and protection of public interest. Our fight is not merely for jobs; it is for the future of public sector banking, social justice, and the interests of millions of Indians. We hope this support will strengthen our collective voice to stop the privatisation of IDBI Bank and safeguard its public character. Plenty of such regressive people in the country. They can't bear to think someone else could possibly rise above the sewer they were accustomed to.
When Bihar set out to spend Rs 500 crore on a new museum, an academic went to court to stop it. A state this poor, he argued, couldn't afford it. This week, that museum was ranked ninth in the world, above New York’s Met and the Louvre. Swarajya walked through it last year.🧵

15 to 25 rs per Kg is retail price of potato just now in UP. That is why Farm laws were introduced but farmers themselves opposed it. Need to curb middlemans profit, profit must go to farmers first then somewhere else

Typical rhetoric of the ignorant. Flood market with goods that no buyer has the capacity or the cash to absorb the material. Prices will fall. Stupid to compare the price of your potatos with the ones used for chips. Even dumber to get into a business you don't understand.
Have started sowing potatoes today. To everyone who mocked or abused me for being a farmer, Tax free income, here’s a reality check. Today, a 50 kg bag of potatoes is selling for just ₹250. Meanwhile, businesses sell 100 grams of fries for ₹100. Now decide for yourself who actually makes the bigger profit: the farmer or the business? So far, I’ve already spent: ₹100 per bag just for cold storage of seed potatoes. ₹100 per bag on sowing. That’s ₹200 already spent, with many more expenses still to come before harvest, including irrigation, fertilizers, labour, pesticides, transport, and more. In the end, a farmer is often left with barely ₹5–10 profit on a 50 kg bag, if that. Despite all this, farmers still don’t abuse anyone. We simply work hard, feed the nation, and hope for a fair return! The day Punjab, India has large-scale food processing plants, farmers will finally be able to earn what they truly deserve. 😀🙏🏻 @MOFPI_GOI @ChouhanShivraj
