Former Alpha News reporter looks back at breaking the Ilhan Omar scandal in 2016 Ten years ago, Preya Samsundar was working at Alpha News when she began investigating allegations that U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar married her brother. Ten years have passed and an official investigation is now finally underway. However, Samsundar — who was one of the first to break the scandal — remains the only reporter to ever receive a response from Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the man at the center of the story. Samsundar joined Liz Collin on her podcast to talk about the striking differences — and strange similarities — between then and now along with some of the other controversies surrounding Omar. "I believe that the reporting that we did 10 years ago was really the loose thread that once authorities started pulling on it, things started to unravel and folks realized that this was probably much bigger than anyone would have imagined,” said Samsundar.

Remember the Minnesota man who escaped his group home and destroyed an 89-year-old woman's home across the street? Turns out, there's MUCH more to the story. Alpha News has learned the same man was linked to dozens of hospital staff injuries and more than $900K in damage. Now, one of Minnesota's largest health systems is threatening legal action unless state and county officials find him an appropriate placement.
EXCLUSIVE: 62 staff injuries, $900K in damage: Hospital sounds alarm over caring for man linked to Hastings home invasion An Allina Health letter reveals a mounting crisis involving a man with developmental disabilities, injured hospital workers, disrupted emergency services and a demand for immediate action from Minnesota officials. "This person is well known to both Hennepin County and DHS and it is unacceptable that there are no contingency plans in place for an individual with such a serious history of violence and specific needs for support," the letter says. As Alpha News previously reported, last month the same man escaped from the Hastings group home where he was living before breaking into an 89-year-old neighbor’s home, leaving behind a trail of blood, feces and destruction.

Republican Aaron Paul, a police officer with decades of law enforcement experience, is running to win a House seat that was decided by just 14 votes in 2024. He told Alpha News: "I believe in taking a common-sense approach to solving problems. I’ll look at every issue with one question in mind: Is this what’s best for Shakopee? My focus will always be on putting people first, ahead of politics or party lines." Check out my story for more.

WANTED: Eduart Gomez Ochoa, 42, in connection to several sexual assaults and/or attempted sexual assaults. At least three separate cases detail assaults against multiple victims, including minors. In some of the cases, Gomez Ochoa is alleged to have climbed through windows to access victims, and approached strangers and assaulted or sexually assaulted them. He has been in custody since charges were filed in some cases, but was released on his own "recognizance" (what recognizance??), despite the fact that Gomez Ochoa has a history of violent crimes. Gomez Ochoa has previously requested language interpreters at hearings. Last known address: Catholic Charities on E 17th St in Minneapolis.

NEW: The Cook Political Report has officially shifted its rating of the U.S. Senate race in Minnesota from "Likely Democrat" to "Lean Democrat." That development is good news for Michele Tafoya who is hoping to be the first Republican to win a U.S. Senate seat in Minnesota since Norm Coleman in 2002. Last month, RealClearPolitics shifted its rating of the Minnesota Senate race from "Leans Dem" to "Toss Up." Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, the DFL candidate in the race, currently leads in RealClearPolitics' polling average by +3.2%.

Ilhan Omar and state Sen. Omar Fateh are set to share a stage with Hasan Piker, who once declared, “America deserved 9/11.” In 2022, Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Jensen faced intense scrutiny from Minnesota’s legacy media over a planned appearance alongside anti-vaccine activists. Jensen ultimately did not attend. Yet that same media has been largely silent about Omar and Fateh’s upcoming appearance with Piker. WHY?
Jewish leaders blast Omar, Fateh for event with streamer Hasan Piker who said 'America deserved 9/11' Minnesota Democrats are facing growing backlash over an upcoming Minneapolis event featuring Rep. Ilhan Omar, state Sen. Omar Fateh and controversial left-wing streamer Hasan Piker, whose inflammatory statements about Jews and Israel — and his declaration that "America deserved 9/11" — have drawn condemnation from Jewish organizations and some members of the Democratic Party itself. "The silence from too many other state DFL leaders is deafening," the Jewish Community Relations Council said. "Jewish Minnesotans hear that silence, and it further erodes their trust."

The viral video showed what the Univ. of St. Thomas student said. But what happened BEFORE she said it? A familiar face on Minnesota’s protest circuit was reportedly shouting and holding up a sign reading “CUNT.” That part of the story was largely missing from the media coverage, until now.
Minnesota media rushes to smear St. Thomas student, ignores vile history of left-wing provocateur Derek Torstenson, a well-known left-wing activist and frequent protester, was shouting and reportedly holding a sign displaying the word "CUNT," details largely missing from subsequent media coverage of the St. Thomas student's viral response to Torstenson.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar wants to audit state government, oppose new taxes, and explore the possibility of ending Minnesota's moratorium on new nuclear power plants. She has also opened the door to adjusting Paid Leave to ensure it is "fiscally responsible" and has said she would have spent the $17.5 billion budget surplus differently. On Monday, she pointedly criticized Gov. Tim Walz, saying, "I would have caught [the] fraud" and "I would have clearly not pardoned a sex offender." With nearly two weeks to go before Election Day, Klobuchar appears to be borrowing a lot from the Republican playbook. Check out my story for more.
Demuth, Klobuchar square off in first gubernatorial debate as campaign enters final days Most notable from Monday's debate was Democrat Amy Klobuchar's repeated embrace of right-leaning ideas and her pointed criticism of Gov. Tim Walz During the debate, Republican Lisa Demuth called out the DFL for increasing the state gas tax by indexing it to inflation in 2023. Demuth said she would repeal that policy and said Klobuchar "voted against the Keystone pipeline which would have brought in 800,000 barrels a day."

DSA-backed state lawmaker hosting Minneapolis event with far-left streamer Hasan Piker, Ilhan Omar Minnesota GOP Chairman Alex Plechash called on Sen. Amy Klobuchar to rescind her endorsement of Rep. Ilhan Omar after the event with Hasan Piker was announced. “Nearly 3,000 Americans were murdered on September 11th. Their families still visit the graves, and Minnesota’s first responders still carry the memory,” Plechash said in a press statement. “Hasan Piker said America deserved it. Ilhan Omar is going to share a stage with him eight days before the election. And Amy Klobuchar’s endorsement is still featured on Ilhan Omar’s campaign website today.”

Submitted: White Bear Lake Middle School students and parents sound the alarm over the district’s “Resolution Supporting Commitment to Equity and Inclusion,” which includes adopting “government speech” and “authorizing the Superintendent to promote the government speech and additional messaging, signage, and visuals that are consistent with this government speech…” “In my opinion, sexual preference and political advocacy do not belong in a learning environment for 11- to 14-year-olds. I was surprised to learn that the resolution includes such signage and that it was passed by our school board. I believe our community should be aware of it, especially with four school board seats on the ballot in the upcoming election. I see this as a harmful mindset within our schools,” one parent said.
