Well that’s a wrap (sorry…burrito) on #TIFF26! Here’s my ranking of the 10 films I saw this year.
I expect things to shift and move around as I have more time to sit with these and see how I feel on a rewatch, but overall, really happy with what I saw! boxd.it/Wwczk
Pour one out for CLUB KID which was a great film but I think is now officially out of the best picture 10 conversation.
Of course anything is possible but it really needed to place for People’s choice to have a shot. #TIFF26

PCA was calculated first, when La Bola Negra won, it was removed for International, giving IPCA to second highest international. Thereby ensuring two different films win the two awards.

ELSINORE truly moved me. Andrew Scott’s remarkable performance may just be the best of the year. A deeply moving piece of storytelling that echoes the core themes of Hamlet, proving that even in the face of death, a voice can echo far beyond the final curtain. #TIFF26
The hate that I Play Rocky is getting is just so ridiculous. Like if you’ve seen the film and don’t like it, fine, but 95% of people haven’t seen it. The film is great. Critics don’t vote for best picture, Academy members do and I think it will work really well for them. #TIFF26

WILD HORSE NINE is another solid entry from Martin McDonagh. Sharp, witty, and heartfelt. The central plot isn’t quite as strong as his past work, but his trademark dialogue and eccentric characters make it a blast.
Malkovich is absolutely brilliant! #TIFF26

CLUB KID is an absolute delight. One minute you’re laughing, the next you’re hit right in the feels. Packed with warmth and elevated by a colorful supporting cast. No matter what walk of life you come from, there’s something here that will deeply resonate with you. #TIFF26

There’s a difference between slow, and a slow burn. MINOTAUR was just slow. 2h 15m felt like three. I appreciated the aesthetic and the raw elements are there, but its themes are totally surface-level and the plots don't click. With all the praise, I hoped for much more. #TIFF26

I liked BUNKER. It keeps you invested with a tense, simmering atmosphere. Bardem & Cruz are great! Where it falters is the final stretch. It stops trusting the audience and spells everything out literally instead of letting it breathe. Flawed ending, but still engaging. #TIFF26
Danny Boyle’s INK is a fun, and kinetic watch. Jack O’Connell & Guy Pearce are magnificent, anchoring a chaotic, yet totally entertaining newsroom dynamic, powered by Boyle’s signature style. There is a brilliant montage at the very end that pulls it all together. #TIFF26
THE DEBUT is one of the best, and funniest films of the year! A near-perfect script, stellar directing, and some of the best performances this year. Giamatti proves yet again why he’s one of the greats. And Julianne Moore? A performance of a lifetime! She’s coming for Oscar #2
