It was actually our 250th anniversary. Not that you would know — you spent it with the British.
Paxton: On July 4th, we celebrated the 200th anniversary of our country.

In Texas, the State is removing climate change courses from the core curriculum. They decided that climate change is just too dangerous to teach the students. This is indoctrination. I wrote an oped about it in the San Antonio Express-News

On The Climate Brink: The Atmosphere Just Set a Water Vapor Record. Aug. 2026 probably had more water vapor in the atmosphere than any month in the last few thousand years, if not a 100,000 years.

The White House plans to amend the National Climate Assessment to question RCP8.5. This is based on a poor understanding of both climate science and risk management.

I posted my comment on the ESS open archive. The doc also includes an appendix that lists every mention of RCP8.5/SSP5-8.5 and the context of how it is described. TL;DR: NCA5 never calls RCP8.5/SSP5-8.5 business as usual or anything comparable.

This is bad news: the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere is one of the key factors controlling extreme rainfall. More water vapor, more extreme precipitation.

The increase in atmospheric water vapor is driven by the incredible warmth of the planet right now, which is due to climate change + the brewing El Nino. Read it here: theclimatebrink.com/p/the-at…

For those tracking the political struggle over our understanding of what current levels of emissions means for #ClimateChange, this @AndrewDessler comment on the Trump Regime's attempt to take RCP8.5 out of the National Climate Assessment is essential reading. This is the key.👇

On The Climate Brink, I post my defense of RCP8.5 and why the USGCRP's proposed amendment to eliminate RCP8.5/SSP5-8.5 from the National Climate Assessment is a terrible idea.

The amendment is justified on two grounds: 1) RCP8.5 should not be used an expected emissions scenario and 2) it is not policy relevant. Point 1 is irrelevant since the NCA5 does not refer to it as business as usual, baseline, etc. And Point 2 is just wrong.
