International Coalition of Human Rights Organizations Meets EU Delegation to UN in Geneva Rights to discuss Violations Arising from the War in Sudan Geneva, June 2, 2026 Representatives of the International Coalition of Human Rights Organizations held an important and extensive meeting with Mrs. Katarina Tapio, EU Delegation to UN in Geneva to discuss the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian and human rights situation in Sudan as a result of the ongoing conflict. At the outset of the meeting, the President of the Coalition reviewed the current human rights situation in Sudan, emphasizing the Coalition’s firm position calling for an immediate and comprehensive cessation of hostilities, the delivery of prompt justice, and continued commitment to international accountability mechanisms, including the surrender of all individuals wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC). He stressed that such measures are essential to ending impunity and ensuring sustainable peace. Members of the Coalition delegation subsequently presented a detailed and well-documented report outlining the catastrophic consequences of the war and its direct impact on civilians. The report warned against the growing phenomenon of militarization and systematic extremism allegedly pursued by the current military leadership. It also highlighted the dangers posed by the international community’s silence regarding acts of intimidation and violence allegedly carried out by the Islamic Movement against Sudanese civilians, warning that such practices threaten social cohesion and risk plunging the country into deeper instability and chaos. The meeting also addressed the issue of the Sudanese Doctors Network and allegations concerning the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces’ acknowledgment of using medical personnel as a cover for military intelligence activities. The delegation expressed deep concern and condemnation over the exploitation of medical professionals and their involvement in military operations in a manner that contravenes international humanitarian principles and legal norms. Participants further discussed the deteriorating conditions in areas under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The Coalition’s delegation highlighted the absence of prosecutorial institutions, the collapse of the education system, and the deprivation of citizens’ fundamental constitutional rights. In this regard, Mrs. Katarina Tapio revealed that the European Union has allocated financial resources to support education and alternative learning initiatives in Sudan through UNICEF and a number of international organizations. Regarding monitoring and accountability mechanisms, the Coalition stressed the importance of the United Nations Fact-Finding Mission conducting direct field visits and meeting victims and witnesses on the ground to ensure the highest levels of credibility and accuracy in its reports. The EU diplomat expressed full agreement with this recommendation At the conclusion of the meeting, the EU Delegation to UN in Geneva commended the pivotal role played by the United Kingdom in advancing peace efforts in Sudan. She reaffirmed the European Union’s firm position calling for an immediate end to the war and announced that, on 15 June, the European Union will present a comprehensive report on the human rights situation in Sudan before the United Nations. #international_coalition_for_h_rights

ICHRO Strongly-Worded Statement Condemning the Airstrike on the Civilian Dumaya Market in Nyala 27 October 2026 The Coalition condemns in the strongest possible terms the airstrike targeting the "Tangoj Station" night market in the Dumaya area, west of Nyala, South Darfur State, on the evening of Monday, 26 October 2026 The strike, attributed to the Sudanese Air Force, resulted in a large number of fatalities and injuries amid reports of horrific human casualties in a market frequented by civilians conducting trade and securing essential livelihoods. Initial circulating reports indicate a potential toll exceeding 200 fatalities, while other statements cite at least (113) injured individuals—figures that have not yet been subject to independent verification. These losses raise profound concerns regarding the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe, particularly concerning the fate of women and children, who ought to enjoy protection from the hazards of military operations, as well as the urgent necessity to document the number and identities of the victims. The Coalition considers the targeting of a civilian market a dangerous escalation in the series of aerial attacks against Sudanese cities and marketplaces. It reiterates its unequivocal condemnation of the ongoing military operations attributed to the Sudanese Armed Forces, which result in civilian casualties and the destruction of infrastructure vital to the daily survival of the population. The Coalition affirms that civilian markets, commercial establishments and residential neighborhoods are protected under International Humanitarian Law (IHL). Direct attacks against civilians and civilian objects as well as indiscriminate or disproportionate attacks, constitute grave violations that may amount to war crimes and necessitate thorough investigation and criminal accountability The Coalition holds the leadership of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), headed by Commander-in-Chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, responsible for ensuring that all forces under its command comply with International Humanitarian Law. It calls for an immediate investigation into command and individual responsibility for this strike, including those who planned, ordered and executed it, emphasizing that war must never be used as a pretext to justify the loss of civilian lives or to foster impunity Furthermore, the Coalition urges the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the International Independent Fact-Finding Mission for the Sudan and the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR) to initiate urgent measures to document the attack, collect testimonies from survivors and medical personnel, specifically verify the number of women and children among the casualties, and preserve critical evidence to assign responsibility and refer findings to competent justice mechanisms The Coalition stresses that the recurring bombardment of markets and civilian areas in Sudan requires the international community to move beyond expressions of concern and condemnation toward effective measures aimed at protecting civilians and ensuring accountability. The continued absence of accountability risks incentivizing further violations and deepening the humanitarian tragedy. Sudanese lives are not military targets, and the right to life and security must not be subjected to the calculus of war or the interests of warring parties. The protection of women, children, and vulnerable groups remains a non-negotiable legal and moral obligation The reiterates its demand for an immediate cessation of attacks on civilians, the unhindered access to medical and humanitarian aid, the launching of an independent international investigation into the airstrike on the Dumaya market and other attacks on civilian markets across Sudan, and the provision of justice and reparations for victims and their families alongside accountability for all perpetrators ichr-international.org
