Mentioning this again, because some people stubbornly refuse to learn:
If you are an artist I have not worked with before, and you DM me asking me to commission you, I will block you. No questions asked, no reprieve.
But why, you ask?
(1) Most of the time it's a scam by people whose "portfolio" consists of stolen or AI-generated work.
(2) On the rare occasions it's not a scam, it still makes me feel pressured and uncomfortable.
Couple of things about this.
First, it's trivially easy to make a slick-looking trailer like this. There's no reason to think it's reflective of the game, and Liara's presence is a tell that it's deliberately built to make you deactivate the skeptical part of your brain.
I can finally talk about Mass Effect Universe.
Since Bioware closed I can now reveal that I was part of the Mass Effect Council, saw what BioWare was building, and provided feedback during development.
• Set 600+ years after the Reaper War
• You play as a customizable N7 agent
• Instead of being a walking gun rack, you're a cross between John Wick and James Bond
• Shepard's legacy preserved, regardless of your ending
• A galaxy divided into three major factions
• Humanity, Krogan, Batarians, and more allied together
• Council races forming their own alliance
• The Geth emerging as a third superpower
• A galactic Cold War instead of another Reaper style invasion with a shadowy adversary
• Geth-built megastructures
• Connections between the Milky Way and Andromeda
• Experimental technology implanted in you as a unique point of difference
• Hacking and manipulating the environment
• See through walls, identify systems, remotely trigger hazards and more
• Handcrafted missions like ME1-3
• But with Hitman-style freedom in how you complete them
• Brutal close-range executions
• Squadmates who can clash with each other
• Romance wasn't being sanitised
• Liara returns - now an incredibly powerful Asari Matriarch
From what I saw, BioWare was making Mass Effect for us, the fans, not for people who don't exist.
It looked incredible.
And now we may never get to play it.

Bottom line: a game studio is its people and its culture. The people and culture that produced Mass Effect and its sequels are long gone, and what remains produced trash like Veilguard.
Kinda becoming a Halloween tradition that I get some lovely YCH's from @Zentaeron -- this year Aneyka finds herself being manhandled by some frisky Horde spirits. Thank you!

Look, I'm as upset about the BioWare news as anybody, but this is a retard-tier take.
EA, for all its faults, is a publicly-traded firm, not private equity. And BioWare, for all its past glories, hasn't released a genuinely good game in years.
This is private equity, this is what it does.
Buy up businesses, run them into the ground, and rip them apart for short-term profit.
The developers at BioWare know how to run the studio. They know how to make the games we all love. They should be given the first opportunity - and the federal support - to buy it and run it themselves.
And if we want to avoid the Mass Effect effect in Canada, we should be keeping private equity out, not welcoming it in.

Have been delayed in posting these -- lots going on -- but a big thank-you to @Chertila_NSFW for this wonderful YCH! It came out so beautifully!
Wanted to post this in my TL too -- a wonderful piece by @exxtracrusty that perfectly captures the "completely overwhelmed, and it's not over yet" vibe I asked for. Thank you so much!
I'm a Yankee, not a Brit. But I would point out that the entire reason bilge like this gets traction is that you guys across the Pond subscribe to the preposterous fiction that "hate speech" is a legally-distinguishable category with a principled definition.
I see supporters of John Cleese are fallaciously claiming that Muslims are trying to shut down his legitimate free speech and criticism of Islam. That simply isn't true.
The issue with John Cleese is that he has gone well beyond criticising Islam. He has repeatedly made false assertions about Islam which are objectively untrue — linking Muslims and Islam to paedophilia, beheadings and mass killings, and falsely asserting that such things are sanctioned by the Qur'an.
And this isn't about one or two ill-judged tweets. It's the relentless nature of it: day after day after day, hundreds of posts over a sustained period, repeatedly targeting Islam and Muslims with the same inflammatory themes.
And he's doing this at a time when Muslims are among the most discriminated-against communities in this country and are subjected to physical and verbal attacks.
If John Cleese limited himself to vigorous but civilised criticism of Muslims and Islam, Muslims still wouldn't like it, but we would accept it because we live in a secular country with strong free-speech protections.
But he has gone beyond that. I genuinely believe his rhetoric risks radicalising people who want to do real harm to Muslims.
There's a difference between the responsible but vigorous exercise of free speech and pure hate speech.
John Cleese is a hate preacher.
I had bronchitis at one point a few years ago and had a coughing fit so severe that I actually fractured a rib. The problem wasn't just the immediate pain from the fracture, it was that the pain spiked every time I had another coughing fit after that. I thought I was gonna die.
