The Church of South India brought together 68 missionaries for a regional mission conference in Dornakal on 23–24 October 2026. Held at the Epiphany Cathedral campus, the conference explored mission and ministry under the theme ‘From Wilderness to Living Water: Participating in God’s Renewing Mission’, drawing on Isaiah 43:19. In his inaugural address, the Bishop of Dornakal, the Rt Revd Dr K. Senam Raj, said: ‘We do pass through wilderness experiences that challenge us, but God has promised us living water. It is through this promise that the lives of our missionaries are affirmed and renewed.’ Read more: bit.ly/3UaoDzj #Anglicans @csisynod

How can churches become more accessible and welcoming to disabled people? The Church in Wales has launched a consultation inviting disabled people, carers and others with relevant experience to share their views and help shape church life. 'A genuinely welcoming Church is one in which disabled people are able not simply to enter the building, but to participate fully in its worship, ministry, and community life,' said the Revd James Lawson, chair of the Disability Welcome Delivery Group. Women bishops from across the Anglican Communion gathered at Virginia Theological Seminary from 5–8 October for ‘Shepherding Together’, four days of prayer, Bible study and sharing the joys and challenges of episcopal ministry. Conceived by Archbishop Marinez Bassotto, Primate of Brazil, the gathering strengthened friendships across provinces and laid foundations for an international network of mutual support. 'There are so many demands in episcopal ministry that take up your days, and it was wonderful to have time dedicated to reflection, self-examination, and sharing our lives,' one participant reflected. What is COP17, and why does it matter? COP17 is the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity. From 19–30 October, governments, civil society organisations, businesses and others are meeting in Yerevan, Armenia, to assess progress towards global commitments to protect the diversity of life on Earth. One of the most important is the 30x30 target: the commitment to protect 30% of the world’s land and sea by 2030. But ocean protection is falling behind. Only 8.4% of marine and coastal areas are currently protected or conserved, compared with 17.6% of land and inland waters. That is one reason the Anglican Communion delegation at COP17 is calling for governments to restore and protect oceans as one of the Lungs of the Earth. Oceans sustain an extraordinary diversity of life, help regulate our climate and connect communities across the world. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Sarah Mullally, has hosted a private meeting of ecumenical leaders, faith-based NGOs and government officials at Lambeth Palace, to discuss the ongoing conflict in South Sudan, as the country prepares for its first elections. The meeting, jointly convened by the Church of England and Christian Aid, was attended by representatives from the South Sudan Council of Churches (SSCC), who outlined the grave political and humanitarian situation in the country and the role churches are playing in peacekeeping, before presenting attendees with a letter and statement, calling for international support. In response, Archbishop Sarah, Archbishop Richard Moth (Archbishop of Westminster) and the Right Rev Gordon Kennedy (Moderator of the Church of Scotland) presented the South Sudanese delegation with a letter, which read: " We have heard your longing for peace and have seen your efforts to mobilise communities to build bridges. Your role in peacebuilding is known around the world. In the coming months, it can prevent even greater suffering affecting the people of South Sudan, at this critical and volatile time in the run up to elections. "We commit to stand with you, in solidarity, in prayer and in the spirit of the Ecumenical Peace Pilgrimage. "We also know that far more than elections will be needed for peace. We pray that leaders will have priorities aligned with the heart of Jesus Christ." The Anglican–Roman Catholic International Commission (ARCIC) held a plenary meeting, online, on 5 October. The meeting marked the conclusion of the second phase of the work of ARCIC III, which began in 2019. During the meeting, the members of the Commission approved the final draft of the Agreed Statement for this phase of their work, "While They Were Talking and Discussing: Learning to Do Moral Discernment in Communion". An editorial sub-committee has worked since the Commission’s previous plenary meeting, in Melbourne, Australia in October 2025, to complete the Agreed Statement, sharing drafts of their work with the full commission for comment, in advance of circulating the final draft for approval. The Statement will be published in the coming months. Read more on Anglican News: bit.ly/4zJWspR Read the full communiqué from ARCIC's October meeting: bit.ly/4sdpeMY #Anglicans

This week, Anglicans from around the world will be at the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD) COP17 in Yerevan, Armenia. World leaders are meeting to review the 2030 biodiversity targets agreed at COP15 in 2022, including the goal to protect 30% of the world's land and sea. Making sure that governments’ finance is channelled towards those who need it most 3. Restoring and protecting our oceans as one of the ‘Lungs of the Earth’ 4. Showing that food security and sustainability go hand in hand Representing different Anglican Provinces, the delegation includes: - Bishop Graham Usher (Church of England Lead Bishop for the Environment and Bishop of Norwich) - Bishop Cathleen Bascom (Eco-Region lead for the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church and former Bishop of Kansas) - Mary Okeno (from the Anglican Church of Kenya) - Anusan Sivarasa (an environmental advocate from the Anglican Church of Sri Lanka) - Nicholas Pande (Environmental Advocacy Lead for the Anglican Communion Office and Global Lead for Resilience and Disaster Response for the Anglican Alliance). 👉 Find out more at: bit.ly/4i7aYAZ 🙏 We invite you to pray for their advocacy and discussions. 👉 Get involved in the Lungs of the Earth Campaign @DioceseNorwich @churchofengland @AngliAlliance #COP17 #biodiversity #yerevan
