I wanted to do a longer thread on this story & some of the interesting work being done
I began thinking abt this w/ the launch of @ourhealthstudy, which begged the question how much of heart disease risk is attributable to genes — and the answer was there really wasn't the data

Big Medicaid news: Judge rules Trump administration's 'medical frailty' definition goes against the law, throwing a late-in-the-game wrench into work requirement implementation, set to launch Jan. 1.

Since the Trump admin issued new work requirements guidance, states have said the federal definition of “medical fraility,” which allows exemptions was narrower than discussed. A judge agreed with them, reports @rosebroderick_ @AnilOza16 and @isabellacueto statnews.com/2026/10/29/medi…

Helen Branswell was the most prescient reporter on Covid, and a wonderful colleague and friend. This video she recorded in late summer is an inspiration to us all.
Last night, STAT's Executive Editor Rick Berke accepted, in memory of Helen Branswell, the Kovler Prize for Trust in Life Science Journalism.
Watch this video that Helen recorded in late summer to accept the award.
We miss you, Helen.

RFK Jr. is making his closing argument to Americans ahead of the midterms election: Vote Republican and we'll Make America Healthy Again, stick with changing vaccine policy, and crack down on fraud (which, in turn, will lower costs, he says). My latest: statnews.com/2026/10/29/rfk-…

“It’s very clear Epic owns the market. Its prices are extraordinary. It has killed innovators left and right — it’s time for a change.” A must-read story from Casey Ross and @brittanytrang, who are investigating the electronic health records giant Epic. statnews.com/2026/10/28/epic…

"[I]t’s ironic to hear a guy who’s trafficked in eugenicist terms, who rejects science outright ... lecture voters about an Arab American scientist with two doctoral degrees who believes in science, like vaccines.”

New investigation from @statnews:
Epic's control over access to hospitals' health data means that it is picking and choosing winners in health tech and AI, and can throttle access to those it deems unworthy, or competitive with its own products. statnews.com/2026/10/28/epic…

So @TylerShultz_ as a Theranos whistleblower. And he wrote the piece you need to read about ‘You Can See Everything.’
Elizabeth Holmes is still lying, he says. And the filmmakers, while creating a great piece of art, fall short on looking outside the walls of her apartment to document that.
One key detail: "My wife had to squeeze my arm to prevent me from jumping out of my seat in the theater and screaming, THAT IS NOT THE DEVICE."
Again, that device Holmes showed? It's not the one we're talking about!!!!
Having seen the film, I basically agree with Tyler's take.

I've done a bit of personal writing over the years. Today I published by far the most difficult essay I've written. On @STATNews, I share the story of my mother, Regina Bosch. She was brilliant--three Ivy degrees--and funny and charismatic. She was also seriously mentally ill.
