(5/8) A computer can give us more control and sophisticated tools, but it cannot decide whether a gag is clearly staged, whether a pose reads, or whether a character’s action is entertaining. His animation was built around strong poses, physicality, timing, and clear ideas.
(7/8) Animating, rigging, modeling, designing, or staging a shot, step back from the technology. Look at the performance. Is the action clear? Does the pose read? Does the timing serve the idea?
The tools will continue to advance.
The fundamentals are timeless.
(8/8) And sometimes, moving animation forward means remembering what already made it work.
