When I vote I don't want unaffordable tax cuts.
I want hospital beds.
Libraries reopening.
Trains that run on time.
Kids who aren't too hungry to learn.
Rivers that don't run with slurry.
Local councils not bankrupted.

It is estimated that the UK has lost around 50% of its public toilets in the past decade as local councils have seen their budgets obliterated
Quick thread on why this is such a problem and what it says about our broken country 🧵

🧵 Nothing can prepare you for how it feels when your pain is ignored by a health care professional, writes @amirahelsafty. For those with endometriosis, getting care is a constant struggle. Just getting diagnosed can take years. (1/5) thewalrus.ca/why-does-the-me…

Did you know the word ‘junior’ in Junior Doctor doesn’t mean young or unqualified
It’s simply the term for any doctor who is not yet a consultant or experienced GP
That includes this 40 year old who’s been a doctor for over 10 years

There was a misleading piece written by the BBC about the junior doctor strike over the weekend, by @NickTriggle.
Couple of facts. A newly qualified doctor (who is likely to have stacked up a LOT of student debt) now earns £14.09 per hour.
Junior doctor pay has reduced by …

1. The screed written by Clarkson and the subsequent rationalisation dressed as an apology should horrify us all.
You don't have to be "pro" Meghan or "woke" to recognise rabid, unhinged misogyny when you see it - and to reject it unequivocally.

Pay nurses what they are asking for! Tories wasted tens of billions on failed test & trace contracts, but won't invest in fair nurses pay when they are the beating heart of the NHS & worth every penny – what will it cost us all if & when even more nurses leave? #AutumnStatement

MP pay 2010 £65k
MP pay 2022 £84.1k
28% rise & real terms rise of over £4k
same period nurses pay down 8% against inflation with real terms pay cut of £3k
RT if you think MPs telling nurses they don’t deserve a rise are taking the piss

14% of nurses are using foodbanks because they can't afford to feed their families. Whether a nurse trained here, or comes to work here, we should never expect them to go hungry to care for patients.
Our NHS deserves better.

Okay Canada, time to show some support for @Patricia_J for having the courage and strength to share her story on the disgusting racism she experienced from Bell Media. Remember how we supported Lisa LaFlamme? Let's do the same for Patricia Jaggernauth.
Thank you.

Dear Therese Coffey,
You can’t improve things for patients without improving things for staff. You’re not running a factory. The staff hold the service together with their care and expertise. Fail to support staff and you fail to support patients.

This is fundamentally the issue we have in #Quebec when it comes to minority rights. As long as francophones continue to see themselves solely as a persecuted minority & not also a majority capable of violating minority rights legitimate criticism is only perceived as Qc bashing.
