American foreign policy under Trump is not isolationist. On the contrary, MAGA ideologues want to build an international empire run by far-right political movements who serve the interests of American crypto, mineral and tech companies, especially if they have links to the president. They think of themselves as "the vanguard of a movement that will alter not just America, but the world."

A good overview of the turmoil in Warsaw tonight. This is basically being caused by the current Polish government trying to reform/remove one of the institutions created by the former authoritarian government. 👇
It's all kicking off at Poland's Constitutional Tribunal tonight.
Police are on the scene, protesters have gathered outside, and a judge has ordered the suspension of the court's president and his deputy.
President Karol Nawrocki is out of the country on a visit to Senegal, although he's reportedly cutting his trip short to return to Warsaw.
It looks as though the confrontation over the Tribunal, which Donald Tusk's government has been trying to overhaul, is entering a new and much more confrontational phase.
A bit of background for those who haven't followed this complicated saga.
The dispute goes back to 2015, when PiS began reshaping the Tribunal, provoking years of controversy over its independence and legitimacy.
Tusk's government argues that the institution was captured and needs to be put right. PiS insists it is legitimate and accuses Tusk of trying to seize political control.
The immediate issue concerns judges elected by the current parliament whose authority the existing Tribunal leadership and President Nawrocki refuse to recognise.
Now one of those judges, Anna Korwin-Piotrowska, has issued an order suspending Tribunal president Bogdan Święczkowski and his deputy for a month.
PiS is calling it an unlawful takeover.
The Tribunal's website announced the suspension, while its official X account claimed the website had been unlawfully taken over so it looks like two rival groups are battling over control of communications.
Police are outside, with PiS supporters and right-wing activists protesting. There are reports of objects being thrown at officers and chains being placed on the building's doors.
PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński accused Tusk of staging a “coup against the Constitutional Tribunal”, declaring: “From today, Poland is becoming a police state, and from there it is a straight road to authoritarianism.”
Warsaw police rejected claims of a forcible takeover, stating: “Police officers are not inside the Constitutional Tribunal building.”
They said officers were responding to disturbances outside, including dangerous objects being thrown at them, and were there to restore public order.

Today, October 30th, my dad has been killed in action.
My kind, calm father.
I write it here because I know my dad has many friends in the NAFO community, people who he could rely on for help.
His memory will perdure on this account.
Forever loved and missed.

Is the U.S. really planning on nominating Viktor Orban to be U.N. Secretary General?
Turns out it's a prank by a MAGA wannabe at the State Department—and the Trump administration is not happy about it.
My latest.

Regarding refinery strikes. There has been an established pattern. Whenever Ukraine showed restraint, or halted strikes on refineries, Russia simply continued its strike campaign against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, and continued to strike civilian targets in cities.

For my English-speaking followers, let's get the facts straight about the Stubb–Støre call with Putin.
New reporting from Finland provides important details missing from much of the international debate. Some of the initial accusations now look rather premature.
First, why did the call happen?
According to President Stubb, Ukraine's peace negotiations were close to collapsing last week, with relations between Kyiv and Washington in serious trouble. Finnish sources suggest there was even a risk of the US disengaging from the process.
At Zelenskyy's request, Finland and Norway organised the Oslo talks with American negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, alongside other European representatives.
The subsequent call to Putin was prepared with Ukraine and the US. According to Finnish sources, key allies were informed beforehand and briefed afterwards. Helsinki also wanted Ukraine to publicly confirm its support for the initiative.
Zelenskyy has since explicitly defended the call and praised its transparency.
Second, the controversy surrounding European coordination deserves clarification.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen accused Finland and Norway of acting independently and failing to coordinate with other European countries.
But Stubb and Støre have both stated that allies were informed in advance and received detailed briefings afterwards. New reporting from Finnish news agency STT supports their account.
There is an important distinction between not being informed, not being consulted on the decision, and fundamentally disagreeing with that decision.
Frederiksen's criticism increasingly appears to reflect a disagreement over whether direct contact with Putin should happen at all, rather than simply a lack of notification. Her initial framing therefore risks creating a misleading impression of an uncoordinated diplomatic operation.
Political disagreement should not be confused with evidence that Finland and Norway acted behind their allies' backs.
Third, what actually happened during the call?
Finnish broadcaster Yle and news agency STT have challenged the Financial Times' account of Putin delivering a lengthy history lecture to passive Nordic listeners.
Their sources describe a substantive exchange in which Stubb and Støre questioned Putin about the upcoming Abu Dhabi negotiations and stressed that prolonging the war would not diminish European support for Ukraine.
Freedom of navigation in the Baltic Sea, keeping maritime routes open and Russia's shadow fleet were also discussed.
Finnish-Russian bilateral relations reportedly were not discussed at all. The parties agreed to keep the communication channel available.
Fourth, the risks were understood from the beginning.
Finnish sources say criticism and possible Russian propaganda exploitation were anticipated. One source described the initiative as values-based realism, which sometimes requires accepting political risks and their consequences.
This was a calculated decision, not an improvised attempt to normalise relations with Moscow.
Zelenskyy has also reminded critics that Putin's diplomatic isolation effectively ended with Trump's Alaska summit in 2025. Other European governments have maintained contacts with Russia, sometimes without comparable transparency towards Ukraine.
Ukraine requested diplomatic assistance, and Finland and Norway responded in coordination with Kyiv and Washington.
Supporting Ukraine for as long as necessary must also mean supporting it in the ways Ukraine actually asks for. That includes diplomacy.
Europe needs military strength, economic pressure and diplomatic influence. These are complementary instruments, not competing alternatives.

An almost comical thing to tell a nation fighting for its existence. Lay down your weapons because we are exhausted from taking a private jet.

🧵 🔴Oleshky Update:
October 30, 2026, 11 AM
Confusion about the evacuated area is reported. According to local residents, elderly people from a nearby Podlesne village began walking to Oleshky early in the morning, in the rain. Those unable to walk have not been picked up. ⬇️

So basically what everyone feared would happen is happening.
Russian forces have begun taking civilians from occupied Oleshky to Russia, apparently disregarding previously announced agreements governing the operation.
The operations are being conducted by the Russian military, without American representatives or teams from either side’s ombudsman office present. Russia’s state news agency TASS is openly filming the operation.
There is no indication that civilians are being given a choice of where they wish to go. No buses or other vehicles designated to transport evacuees to Ukrainian-controlled territory are visible.
The operation raises serious concerns that Russia is once again exploiting a humanitarian evacuation to forcibly transfer Ukrainian civilians.
The parallels with the evacuation of Mariupol’s Azovstal steel plant are disturbing. Once again, Moscow appears to be disregarding agreed procedures while controlling the fate of Ukrainian civilians.
