Stat of the day from @AskNationwide The average 🏠price is 0.5% higher than a year ago at £273,566, as a result of rising mortgage rates and geopolitical angst. Will #Budget tax rises make banks less likely to lend to those households that want to move home? Let us hope not 💷🏡

Stat of the day from @bankofengland Mortgage approvals fell to 53,400 last month, down from 54,900 in August .The Budget did not deliver any stamp duty breaks. But maybe the government isn't interested in the economic benefit that could flow from a busier property market?💷🏠

and another thing... About 50% of social housing tenants are on Universal Credit. Does that mean that the Govt. will have to pay more if rents do rise?

Of course you're absolutely right but it's worth pausing for 15 seconds to remember that according to @ONS average UK monthly private rents rose by 3.8% in the 12 months to September 2026 and by roughly 29% overall across the decade to 2025.

Successive governments have subcontracted the need to provide social housing to the private rented sector. If more landlords quit thanks to this tax rise, reducing supply and driving up rents for struggling households, will this government step in to supply more social homes?
In the fridge with the other lagers?

Is the extra taxation on rental income a message to investors that they should move out of property and into stocks and shares? If so, a cut to the stamp duty on shares would have been a useful nudge #Budget2026 #Budget
Stat of the day The Budget has raised the rates of income tax paid by landlords. "From 2027 to 2028, the property basic rate will be 24%, the property higher rate will be 44%, and the property additional rate will be 49%." Higher rents on the way? 🏡🏠💷

The #Budget documents tell us that the £4.7 bn Your First Home scheme will help around 70,000 households step onto the ladder and support the delivery of an estimated 20,000 new homes. That major manifesto pledge of 1.5m homes by 2029 still seems undeliverable 🏠🏡💷

...Budget reform of the 5% stamp duty band, charged the portion of a property from £250,001 to £925,000 of a property, would revive the market in the South. Should chancellor @JohnHealey_MP see this as a rapid way to boost stamp duty revenues? 🏠🏡💷

After more riots in France, investors are asking: will the damage done to the Paris stores of the Big Luxury will derail the sector’s turnaround? Or is this the time to back @LVMH @Kering @Hermes_Paris and the rest? mol.im/a/16233189 via dailym.ai/android 💄👜🍷⌚️👗
