Can @FIDA_Uganda and @pla_ug support women who have lost their jobs during Covid-19 by documenting which sectors they are from? Under what circumstances they lost their jobs & engage employers on this front? It would be a great tool to lobby for the sector that affected most.

My view is that the economic dynamics that are investor shielding pose a bigger challenge. The investors lobby for the delay or shelving of skme of these laws like the minimum wage law. #LabourRelationsUg

We hope that @Mglsd_UG is taking stock of what really needs to be done to strengthen the protection. Appointing labour officers and they are not facilitated to their work defeats the purpose and it is the workers that suffer

Building capacity of labour officers would mean more matters are conclusively handled thus reducing the needed for having to refer or appeal cases in the industrial Court #LabourRelationsUg

#labourrelationsUg the labour officers being the first court of instance is not the problem. The problem is who is employed as a labor officer given that it is a quasi judicial court. The problem is the lack of capacitation and facilitation.@arkwesi @FIDA_Uganda @Mglsd_UG

The impacts of this pandemic are uprecedented. Massive laying off of staff, downsizing and for many that could sti keep thier jobs, discussions around salary cuts, unpaid leave and working without pah for some months has been the move by employers. #LabourRelationsUg

Accessibility to the court by the workers will also be difficulty given the it is only based in Kampala and can only do regional circuiting.

Stigma, poverty, landlessness and the care burden of childrem born of war. Support has been obtained minimally but is short lived and program based. Limited capacity by local district admin to offer comprehensive support.

We are making proposals to plug the gaps in the redress of CARSV. This does not have to be by way of an Act of Parliament. The model law approach is proposing a framework that can be picked from in various ways; rules, guidelines policy etc but specific to CARSV

The ICC Act is our starting point as it reproduces the serious violations in the Rome Statute. However, the Model Law goes beyond and even provides the victim-friendly procedures . In this way, it enhances what is found in the ICD Rules. #crsvug
