A lesson I wish I learned sooner: failure just means gathering information you didn’t have before, so you can succeed the next time.

The best longevity advice right now is embarrassingly simple: sleep 8 hours, move your body, eat real food, manage your stress, and cultivate an optimistic mindset. Don't die from something stupid.

Many great video games teach physics/chem/scientific thinking - Oxygen Not Included has great thermodynamics, try not to accidentally create a hydrogen pocket and blow yourself up - Polybridge covers tension, load balancing, material science, trigonometry, and forces you to contend with a budget at the same time - Kerbal Space Program teaches you about rockets and all the science related to them - SpaceChem from Zachtronics is too hard for most kids but… bonds galore - Factorio is really an industrial engineering game, but you do learn about power and realistic technology trees. Particularly great for learning bottleneck theory And so so so many more great games like these, comment if you want me to build a more exhaustive list
In the games my boys play. they memorize so many parameters and interactions that it’s extraordinary. Why aren’t there educational games where the parameters and interactions being memorized are true to physics or chemistry?

Procrastination is an identity management problem. As long as you haven't started, you are still potentially great and potential is infinite. But actuality is finite and specific and mediocre at first. Think of it as Schrödinger's talent: the box stays closed and you stay a genius.
Procrastination is the phobia of discovering you're not who you think you are. So you don't start. And not starting preserves the fantasy. The fantasy is comfortable. The fantasy is killing you.

The happiest people I know don't have perfect lives, but they do have one thing in common: They've mastered the art of moving on. They don't keep score, they don't cling to "what if", they don't dwell. Lot's of progress to be made by simply not staying stuck in the past.

Things people are building right now that will define the next decade: - Their attention - Their information diet - Their ability to do hard things alone Every one of these used to be a default. None of them is anymore.

there is a strange incentive in startups to make every decision sound permanent we chose this market we hired this person we launched this product we raised this round so people start defending the decision before they know whether it was right that is where a lot of bad company behavior comes from just the fear of looking inconsistent but changing your mind is not the same as having no conviction you can have a clear point of view and still update it when reality gives you better information the miss is letting an old decision become part of the company identity then every new piece of evidence becomes something to explain away teams get very good at this they call it focus or strategy or staying the course sometimes it is sometimes it’s just ego with a nicer name the best companies i know have strong opinions and a low attachment to being right forever they make the call they watch what happens they adjust before the decision gets expensive

To build a business you need to make something people get more value from than they pay for. You don't figure that out behind a desk. You talk to potential users to understand which problems you have to solve and where the product needs to go next. A couple of days ago I was out on a sauna boat, and spent most of it asking the boat owner what his biggest problems were and how Lovable could help. How I talk to customers has evolved, but it's still one of my favorite parts of the job.
If you want to get into YC, don't focus on getting into YC. Focus on building stuff and understanding your users. That's what gets you into YC.

I never focused on being wealthy. I just wanted to work less, help thousands of people, explore hobbies, spend time outside, cook with my wife, exercise a lot, and avoid dumb meetings. So, I optimized for life, not money. The money took care of itself.

When you hear that data is the new oil, this is ultimately what that looks like. AI has such a thirst for data that we’re entering an era where it’s valuable almost in any form. In a world of AI, information actually belongs as an asset on the balance sheet. This data sale is just one example of the implications of what that will look like. Ultimately, the way that companies manage and mine their organization’s intelligence will be one of the deciding factors for competitiveness and value creation in the future.
Wow, seems like Google is buying Spirit Airlines' enterprise data for $10m (outbidding Mercor at $7.5m). Basically includes every internal document, email, workflow, and codebase for a once $6B company. Honestly, $10m for 34 years of operational data really seems like a steal.

“It’s impossible to become addicted to a substance you’ve never taken [or a behavior you’ve never engaged in].” Why? Because dopamine controls reinforcement learning. -Dr. Robert Malenka, M.D., Ph.D. Professor @StanfordMed on the Huberman Lab Podcast.

truth of doing great things: all the good ideas will be copied. it’ll always come down execution at the start, and structural advantage later on. unfortunately, competition is inescapable

I introduced my parents to ChatGPT today. They never heard about it, had trouble signing up, and were completely mindblown that such a thing exists or how it works or how to use it. Fun reminder that I live in a bubble.

You don’t improve by writing. You improve by rewriting. When you’re writing by hand or with a typewriter, you have to rewrite things from scratch. Computers might make editing too easy, and they standardize language because spell check does so much of the work for you.
