The classroom is HIS to determine what happens in it! Y'all are deliberately overlooking that. Denying a child a cupcake is NOT traumatizing, y'all need to let it go!
The cupcakes weren’t HIS to determine who got them. The parent sent them for their child to celebrate with their classmates. That wasn’t the time to prove a point. Had he purchased the cupcakes, then who he gives them to are his business.

Its really about all of us having different experiences and y'all refusing to hold space for the lived realities of everyone, because my mother did NOT pay for Thanksgiving dinner, lol. As the one hosting now, I do NOT expect my guests to pay for anything when I host.
That whole conversation RE: pitching in for Thanksgiving/cookouts/community gatherings is really about y’all not being privy to how elders were doing things, and now that y’all are at the grown folks table, you don’t know what to do and are apprehensive about every solution.

...Alternatively...our families just don’t do this, lmao and that’s ALSO OK. If you’re hosting Thanksgiving, you cover everything. (I'd actually argue that makes us...not broke).
Yall be broke thats why anything involving money comes up there’s always a bunch of hoopla $25 don’t even cover an entire dish for 10+ people…

LOVE this, but you're having a different convo, lol. Most of these are NOT full weekend/multi-day events. Its a one day (few hrs honestly) gathering at someone's home and groceries may be more expensive, but if the turkey is 30 dollars and serves 10, WHY charge fam 30/person??
Girl they’d hate our family. Because we do it so big it’s $150 per adult. 18 and under are free 😂

This literally never happened in my family. If you the host, you HOST. OMG.
Your aunts and uncles were giving your grandma money for thanksgiving btw. They just didn’t broadcast it because that’s common sense. Niggas grown as hell acting like children just wanting to show up and eat.

Absolutely ATROCIOUS take. Focus on completion, neatness and following instructions if you don’t understand the material. NHJ also mentions MULTIPLE times being able to afford private tutors, so even if SHE didn’t understand the work, looking it over would still have been helpful
One of the oddest takes on the NHJ essay is that she should’ve been checking her kid’s schoolwork more. I taught 6th grade math and by then the work was complex enough that most parents weren’t able to correct mistakes at home.

Reading further, you’re associating checking work with teaching/reteaching and they are NOT the same concept.

Mind you... she wasn’t even checking her child's schoolwork or skills. She wasn't an engaged parent until her own daughter called her to the carpet. This is an indictment of NHJ more than NYPBS
if she had put her kid in private school from the start and ended up with an anxious kid beaten down by racism you'd have said she should have known better than to have her around white people's children. the literal point is that there *are* no good choices for black families.

...am I about to have to defend Bellamy Blake in 2026?!?! What is going on??
Discordo.

She is STILL the Paris of the West ok!!!
It was so important to me to get married in Detroit. It’s a main character in our love story and I feel like so many people don’t know how truly beautiful the city is. 98% of my guests came from the south and never experienced Detroit. They had a BLAST!!

1. You appear non-Black. Silence. 2. The show is ALSO canon 3. Masculinization applies when a character who was previously written to live into the common ideals of femininity (pinks, soft life, romance, adoration), is stripped of all of those things for no reason.
