Some footballers are just what they are. They never make sense to fans. They divide opinions among fans. Havertz is a classic example. The only club he’s probably played at where opinions weren’t divided was Bayer Leverkusen. He was a point of contention among Chelsea fans. He’s the same at Arsenal and in the German national team. Despite all this, there’s no coach or manager that hasn’t considered him a good player. He was a key player under every Chelsea manager. He’s been a key player under every German national team manager. Arteta doesn’t joke with him. He rains plaudits on him. He’s called him all sorts of beautiful names. He said he’s a very intelligent footballer to describe his style of play. He tagged him a “25-30-goal striker” to describe his goalscoring potential. When he was played every market day, he said he’s a “genetic powerhouse” and the guy went on injury holiday the following game. Not many will remember him for lighting the place up, but the guy has two UCL final goals. How do you even rate the career of a player like that? He has a PL and UCL medal. He’s made a £60m-north move twice in his career. And he’s only 27. He’s one of the most important players in one of the strongest national teams in Europe. Yet, he can frustrate the living daylight out of the average watching fan. Such a point of indescribable confusion.

All game no one would see Gyokeres. But the Havertz that everyone is seeing is busy wasting all the chances. Havertz should teach Gyokeres how to position. Gyokeres should teach Havertz how to convert chances. They’ll need it in their new clubs by January.
