September 11 is Stand Up to Cancer Day, which unites people around the world in the fight against this devastating disease. Immune checkpoint inhibitors therapies are transforming cancer treatment, offering new hope to many patients. But for people living with systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (including inflammatory arthritis), these treatments can worsen their conditions. To help guide care, the Canadian Research Group of Rheumatology in Immuno-Oncology (CanRIO) and the Canadian Rheumatology Association developed clinical recommendations through collaboration among rheumatologists, oncologists, researchers, and a patient partner.
