"Literature isn’t a moral beauty contest. Its power arises from the authority and audacity with which the impersonation is pulled off; the belief it inspires is what counts.”

When the NDP govt took over in 2017, ICBC was in an absolute financial mess.
Since then, thanks to no-fault insurance, there has been no rate increases for the past 7 years, while drivers have received rebates averaging about $640.
Why would anyone want to change this? #bcpoli
.@isanchezprado reminded me of Roberto Calasso's The Ruin of Kaschh; this is a random quote:
"Anyone who, in order to survive, succumbs to the moment and adopts its style will be killed by the moment that follows" (P. 68)

"They sat together in the park
As the evening sky grew dark
She looked at him and he felt a spark
Tingle to his bones
'Twas then he felt alone
And wished that he'd gone straight
And watched out for a simple twist of fate"

Indeed!
"There is irony in watching the French literary establishment grapple so openly with authorship and authenticity. After all, it was Roland Barthes who declared the author “dead” in 1967 and the text a mere “fabric of quotations.”

This pitch that Jose Ramirez hit for a home run was 0.74 ft above the ground.
That’s the lowest pitch hit for a playoff HR since tracking began in 2008 🤯

The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption. #NoDeathPenalty

In 1952, a 27-year-old psychiatrist from Martinique published a book arguing that colonialism wasn't just a political system, it was a documented form of collective mental injury, and he had the clinical training to prove it.
Frantz Fanon trained as a psychiatrist in France before working in colonial Algeria, and Black Skin, White Masks was his first major work, written while he was still finishing his residency. In it, he argued that colonized Black people are pushed to internalize whiteness as the standard of worth, then measured permanently against a standard they're never allowed to fully reach, producing real psychological damage he treated directly in his own patients.
He wasn't writing as an outside observer theorizing about race. He was a clinician diagnosing a condition he watched colonialism actually produce in people.
The book became foundational to postcolonial theory and influenced the thinking of civil rights leaders well beyond Africa and the Caribbean. More than 70 years later, people are still assigning it in university courses because the psychological pattern Fanon described never fully went away, it just changed its packaging.
Y lo hizo en la era con más paridad y talento en la historia de la liga.

AI cracking unsolvable math problems while being kinda mid at writing is a much-needed W for humanities majors after a rough 21st century.
Como si necesitáramos más pruebas para desconfiar de #Borges.
