Ben’s writes which such beautiful intimacy. His story is one of tremendous loss and longing, which others failed to see time and time again (instead only seeing his behaviour). Ben’s search for belonging and understanding is a positive reminder of how there is always hope. It was a privilege to hear Ben’s story.

Essential reading for social workers or social work students
This is a hard read at times as the heartlessness of society are evidenced on a vulnerable young boy. His journey from a troubled lad through an unsettled adolescence to a reflective young man and proud father will make you laugh, cry, angry and hopeful in equal measure. If you’re a practicing social worker it’s a great read to allow you to consider where your practice is today. If you’re a student social worker, teacher, or residential care worker there are lots of messages in this for you to improve your work with children and young people.

I have no words to describe how much my sister means to me. She has never given up on me when others did. I've been at my sister's house today for a couple of hours just talking. At 14 she had a child and people would say how shit her life would be. She owns her own house. She's the manager of an adults with learning disabilities home. None of her children ended up in care. She's my hero. 🙏♥️🙏
