48 years ago today, the legendary Keith Moon passed away 🥁
He was the drummer for The Who starting in 1964 and treated the drums as a solo instrument, with explosive fills and massive drum kits. He left his mark on Tommy, Who’s Next, Quadrophenia, and Live at Leeds. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the band and remains one of the most influential drummers in Rock History.

That is some beat-down.
Let’s go!

Phil Collins is a complete rarity in a UK context; he’s the Prog bloke, that people at The Pub could relate to. He laid the groundwork to utterly capture Pop, whilst maintaining an absolute sense of authenticity. Even if you don’t dig it - you never think he doesn’t mean it.

Phil Collins isolated vocals = goosebumps.

The Phil Collins Effect and Leadership Returns.
Cultural research describes what is known as the Phil Collins Effect: a familiar pattern in which admired figures move through three phases. First, admiration. Then decline, as criticism takes over. And finally, rehabilitation, when a new generation rediscovers their value.
This pattern is not limited to music or art.
We see it in leadership as well.
Consider CEOs who returned to the very companies they once left under difficult circumstances.
Steve Jobs was pushed out of Apple, only to return years later and reshape the company’s identity and future.
Howard Schultz stepped away from Starbucks, returned during a period of decline, and reanchored the organization in its core values.
Bob Iger came back to Disney after stepping down, not to reinvent the company, but to stabilize culture and restore confidence.
Michael Dell returned to Dell when the company struggled to adapt to a changing market.
Steve Huffman came back to Reddit as CEO after years away, guiding the platform through renewed growth and difficult governance questions.
What unites these stories is not redemption as spectacle, but timing and perspective.
Distance changes meaning.
Failure reshapes identity.
Time allows both leaders and organizations to see what was missing, overlooked, or prematurely dismissed.
Like artists who are rediscovered, leaders are sometimes understood only after absence. Their return is not a repetition of the past, but a re-entry with greater clarity about what truly matters.
Leadership, it turns out, is rarely a straight line upward.
It moves in cycles of recognition, rejection, and renewal.
Leadership is a human journey.
