I called off my wedding because of something my future mother-in-law said. During our introduction, she smiled and announced: “In our family, no woman has ever given birth by C section. It has never happened, and by God’s grace, it never will. You too will deliver naturally.” Everyone laughed and said Amen. Days later, I asked my fiancé if she was serious. He said, “She’s serious ooo. But don’t worry, God won’t let that happen to you.” I asked the real question: “What if a doctor says C-section is the only way to save my life or the baby’s?” He replied, “My family won’t agree to it. They’ve never accepted it before.” That was the moment I knew. It wasn’t about childbirth anymore. It was about whether my life could one day depend on other people’s beliefs. I ended the engagement. Everyone says I overreacted and threw away a good man over something that hadn’t even happened. But I keep asking myself. Was I wrong for walking away from a future where my life might one day become negotiable?

That’s reckless on two levels, running a red light is dangerous enough, but leaving the scene after a crash makes it even worse. Hopefully the victims are okay and authorities can identify the driver.
