Everything is either pure good or pure evil. That’s how every empire starts to crack. People stop believing the story that held them together. Then the structure follows. You can admit parts of the past were ugly. You don’t have to burn the whole thing down. Every civilization that treated its founding myth like a lie eventually started acting like one.
