9/11 — Remembrance and Recommitment
We remember 9/11 not only as a day of tragedy, but as the moment when ordinary people performed extraordinary feats of courage, sacrifice, and selflessness to manage tragedy and confront the great evil of terrorism. First responders and brave American citizens raised their hands and through action and deed proclaimed:
“I will not stand idle. I will not turn my back. I will put my country and my neighbor first, and myself second.”
And in the years that followed, an entire generation of dedicated, courageous men and women in uniform answered the call to service…many of whom gave their last full measure to safeguard our freedoms. As fellow veterans, we salute you.
On this solemn anniversary, the call to remember is also a call to act. Yes, we must never forget, but we can do more. Much more. It is a time to renew our values and rekindle our American ethos. It is a time to choose principle over profit, empathy over ego, and solidarity over self-serving pursuits.
In the 25 years since 9/11, our enemies have refined their tactics and methods. They are still attacking our values and way of life, not with airplanes diving-bombing our buildings, but with insidious partisan propaganda, hateful misinformation, and dark money corrupting our institutions and turning us against each other.
We are only a great nation because we are a great people. Our prosperity has always been rooted in principle and community. Acts of kindness, generosity, and service have always been the beating heart of American culture. So, as you remember our heroes and honor the fallen, we ask that you also renew your personal commitment to promoting the core values that have made America the great nation it has been for the past 250 years.
