The Minnesota Fillies were an American women's professional basketball team based in Minnesota that competed in the Women's Professional Basketball League from 1978 to 1981. The Fillies were one of three teams to play in all three of the league's seasons.

It is very common we discuss time missed due to military service when it comes to MLB history, but rarely does it get brought up in NBA history. Paul Arizin missed two full seasons (1953 and 1954) while serving in the Marines in Korea. He led the NBA in scoring in 1952 (25.4 PPG) and made the All-NBA 1st Team the year before he left. Then, in 1956, just two years after returning from the Marines, Arizin once again made the All-NBA 1st team and finished NBA MVP runner-up. He was born on this day in 1928.
