In conjunction with the Net Points metric I'm developing (see below for details), I also plan to report Game Awards for various stats - some of which are common, others I have developed.
Here's a first iteration of the Game Awards for the Memphis exhibition! #WPS
STAT POST — FEEDBACK WANTED
I've been workshopping a new metric for this season called Net Points, designed to approximate the NBA's version without their fancy player-tracking data.
The basic idea: every possession assigns weighted credit or blame to all five players on the floor.
Example, an assisted basket: most credit goes to the scorer, then the assister if there is one, with smaller amounts going to teammates for things the box score misses — spacing, movement, screens, etc.
Defense is trickier. Steals, blocks and forced turnovers create clear credit, but on a simple missed shot, the whole lineup shares credit for the stop with a small bonus to the rebounder.
There's much more under the hood, but that's the high-level idea.
Here's how Net Points compared to the actual box score against Memphis.
I want feedback: Who looks too high or too low? Any questions about a player's rating? I'm still fine-tuning the weights to better reflect actual impact on the game.
Because why not.
Sources: Missouri All-American RB Ahmad Hardy will make his season debut this weekend at Arkansas. He’s not going to start, but he’s expected to get a handful of carries for Missouri. Hardy returned to practice this week after dealing with the injury complications of being struck by a bullet in May.

Hogs are now 56% from the FT line across two exhibition games.
Two games is a small sample size, but enough to at least raise an eyebrow at.
One reason I’m not overly concerned yet - they were 73% as a team in the Bahamas.
It will balance out.
Miikka Muurinen
- Hits the deck after a loose ball to force the jump ball
- Fires up the Bud Walton crowd
- Finishes the play with a tough finish across the lane
Special talent. #WPS
