Halloween Hazards With Spooky Season upon us and "Trick or Treat-ing" happening today , we thought it would be helpful to remind you about common exposures that we hear about during this period. GLOW STICKS - Glow sticks will usually only cause mild signs when ingested. They are bitter tasting and therefore most animals will only ingest a small amount of the liquid. There is also foreign body risk if parts of the plastic are swallowed. CHOCOLATE - Contains theobromine, which can lead to vomiting, diarrhoea, elevated heart rate, tremors, and even seizures. Keep all chocolate well away from pets. SWEETS - Most sweets contain sugar and when eaten in large quantities, will likely cause gastrointestinal upset. Any sugar-free sweets or chewing gums containing xylitol must be kept away from dogs - always read the label. PUMPKIN - While plain, cooked pumpkin is safe in moderation, ingesting raw or mouldy pumpkins can cause gastrointestinal upset or expose pets to tremorgenic mycotoxins when it is mouldy, which may lead to tremors or seizures. Dispose of any left over pumpkin safely. CANDLES - Not toxic, but if swallowed, they can cause a gastrointestinal obstruction, and hot wax can lead to burns. If you think your animal has ingested ANYTHING other than their food call your vet immediately for advice

New VERY unexpected arrivals at Bradford Cat Watch Rescue and Sanctuary this morning This morning when I got up in the small hours and looked out of the window , I was both shocked and upset as overnight someone had left these poor babies in the cold and rain . Just outside the Rescue boundary These boys are less than a year old and really are sweetest boys . We have called them Ripley and Burton. They will remain in our care for at least 7 days before finding them a home This 7 day period allows us to carry out all the veterinary interventions, assess the temperaments and of course ensure there isnt an owner out there looking fir them, as we do not know the circumstances of why they are here We are now working hard to find them a foster placement

💔 Some very sad news from the Sanctuary 💔 It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that our beautiful little Dijon sadly passed away earlier this week following another serious deterioration in her health. As many of you know, Dijon was one of our much-loved S.E.N.S.E. residents, who faced enormous challenges throughout her four years of life. Despite being paralysed from the waist down, Dijon was a happy, chatty, bossy little girl who certainly knew what she wanted! She loved her chicken, raced around at surprising speed in her spectacular outfits and kept us all entertained with her mischief. She is the only cat I know that can have a full general anasthetic and still kick off, slap the nurses and pull several cannulas out. Over the years, she overcame so many serious health battles, but sadly this was one fight our brave little girl couldn't win. Dijon was such a special part of our Sanctuary family, and her loss has left us heartbroken. Thank you to everyone who has cared and supported her along the way. The Sanctuary will be a much quieter place without our little diva shouting her orders. Sleep peacefully, beautiful Dijon. 🤎🐾

Delightful Dandelion update. Dandelion has been with us exactly 14 weeks, when we rescued him from a veterinary surgery, the very people who had the resources to care for him, yet neglected him, and denied him care for over 2 weeks. The quick thinking team at Northcote Veterinary Surgery arranged and emergency ( and unconventional) blood transfusion that literally saved his life. Fast forward.. Dandelion is is doing amazing but is still requiring regular monitoring, Blood tests and daily medication. Due to the nature of his medication Dandelion remains in isolation as he can't start his vaccinations and remains immunocompromised. We are looking at alternative environments so that his care can continue in a less clinical environment. Could you donate the cost of a Pumpkin Latte towards Dandelions ongoing care . * The easiest way to donate is via PayPal using [email protected] as the recipient. please select the friends and family option so we are not charged a fee. *you can donate by calling our vets at Northcote and making a card payment. Marble Marble is an approx 18 month old male DSH. He was brought into a vet practice when he was found by the side of the road with injuries to his hind limbs, which X-rays revealed to be due to a fractured pelvis. He was taken home by one of the veterinary nurses ( also one of our fosterers) and has been kept on crate rest for the past six weeks. Marble is an incredibly sweet and playful little chap who loves a cuddle, a chin scratch, and a wand toy! X-rays taken this weekend show that his pelvis is healing well but he has had to have his tail amputated due to nerve damage. He’s taken this in his stride and is continuing his crate rest like an angel while he mends. He loves his dry food (currently Iams, but also Hills) and uses his litter tray with wooden pellets well. An indoor home is essential for him. Despite everything he has been through, he’s such an affectionate and loving lad and will make someone a wonderful companion. Whole Marble will be ready for a new home in around 3 weeks.

After 8 weeks in rescue at Bradford Cat Watch Rescue and Sanctuary and such a traumatic start to life Wensleydale and Stilton and now settling g into their forever home together. This pair certainly came with their challenges and multiple fractures between them, however they have overcome them triumphantly.
