"You’ve got consultants stuck in a hamster wheel unable to provide better services for their patients.” Dr Mike Henley, Consultants Committee deputy chair on BBC Radio 4's Today programme. The Government needs to engage consultants meaningfully to avoid strike action. Taking months, or years, to solve the problems is not an option.

In an independent BMA poll, 9/10 members of the public said consultants should be paid competitively, comparable to competitor countries, 9/10 wanted their care overseen by a senior doctor. 84% were worried about the long term stability of the NHS without this. Link follows.
