BRGIE – Official Memorandum Date: October 17, 2026 Subject: BRGIE Response to the Finnish Court of Appeal Decision on Prime Minister Simon Ekpa’s Case October 15, 2026, marked a significant milestone in the history of the Biafran struggle for self determination. Attorney Tommi Heinonen, Prime Minister Simon Ekpa’s Finnish counsel, formally briefed Hon. Joseph E. Schmitz, BRGIE International Counsel and Special Envoy, on the decision issued by the Finnish Court of Appeal. According to the ruling, the conviction handed down by the lower court was upheld; however, the Court of Appeal reduced the original six year sentence to four years. As a result, Prime Minister Simon Ekpa is expected to be released on or before November 17, 2026. While this outcome does not constitute a complete victory, it represents a meaningful and encouraging step forward. It is a development worthy of recognition by all who have remained steadfast in their commitment to justice, truth, and the right to peaceful self determination. The BRGIE extends its profound gratitude to all individuals, organizations, and partners whose efforts contributed to this important milestone. We acknowledge and appreciate those who worked publicly and professionally, as well as those whose contributions were made quietly behind the scenes. Our sincere appreciation goes to Hon. Joseph E. We also commend the Legal and Appeal Teams, for their diligence in gathering and documenting evidence—and whose professionalism in compiling the dossier and presenting the case ensured the Finnish attorneys were grounded on the facts of the matter. To the organizers and participants of the solidarity rally held in Lahti, Finland, on August 4, 2026, and to those who demonstrated their support through attendance at court proceedings, we extend our deepest respect and appreciation. To the many Biafrans and supporters who contributed financially to this cause through support for the BRGIE Legal Services, including the 100 Men Divine Project, BRGIE X Media, and the PUC, we offer our heartfelt thanks and pray that Almighty God richly bless and reward your generosity. This outcome stands as a clear affirmation that peaceful advocacy for Biafran self determination is a legitimate democratic expression and must not be construed as a criminal act. Biafrans remain steadfast and resolute. Our commitment to justice is unwavering, and our efforts to fully vindicate Prime Minister Simon Ekpa will continue as we pursue all available remedies before the Finnish Supreme Court.
