Our @MoustacheDAO “Proof of Moustache” bot broke recently. =( So I got the first version of its replacement working in ~20 mins, with no technical background. =) I spent a couple more hours on it afterward, fitting it around other work. Another member built the original bot, but it broke during an update. He was busy, so I took the opportunity to try building a replacement from scratch myself. I used @openappsxyz’s underlying tech, working with Codex through my ChatGPT account, to ship a new PoM tracker with a few extras. Now, when someone posts a moustache photo with /pom in the caption, the bot: - Logs their check-in - Reacts with a banana 🍌 - Drops a cheeky moustache compliment It also keeps leaderboards, catches you up on the chat with /summary, and collects member requests with /request. You can ask it questions, too. I capped its AI usage to keep costs down, so sometimes the dumb questions and clanker harassment will have to wait. xD There’s a dashboard on its own URL where I can manage everything and add more admins as needed. Yes, it’s a moustache tracker. We are tracking facial hair. 〰️W〰️ But our community wanted - nay, needed - something specific, and I was able to build it myself in the gaps between other work. It also highlights how many useful community tools depend on one person having time to maintain them. That’s where the bigger OpenApps vision comes in. OpenApps isn’t a vibe-coding platform. We’re rethinking how apps are ideated, built, funded, governed, and kept running beyond their original makers (builders). In an Open App, AI operates and develops the app within its rules and budget. Anyone can suggest improvements. Token holders shape its direction and can veto proposed builds before they ship. This little bot is one example of building with the underlying tech. Now imagine a tool your community could collectively govern, with AI carrying out ongoing work even when the original builder gets busy. Think about how many communities have their own version of “I wish we had something that did this.” The opportunities are endless. [◎_△]
