Backstretch Employee Service Team of NY (BEST)

Every Sunday night, BEST (Backstretch Employee Service Team) provides a free, hot meal for the workers who keep the racing industry running — and this past Sunday was no different. The delicious food was prepared by the Adelphi Hotel in Saratoga and featured a full Latin American menu, sponsored by Mr. & Mrs. John Oxley and Seven Duncker. I had the chance to interview Mike, a dedicated volunteer who’s been with BEST for 8 or 9 years. A racing fan since the 1970s, Mike shared that his love for the sport inspired him to give back to the people behind the scenes — the hardworking men and women on the backstretch. This is community.
