The saddest thing about Epic's crusade against Steam is that they could've actually done a lot better and benefit everyone.
The bottom line was simple: Another store, 12% cut instead of 30% (both players and developers win as there is more money for development) + free games and exclusives. Win Win scenario.
But the company is so badly run in terms of marketing and politics (not tech-wise) that they just couldn't, just didn't have it in them to focus on the positives and work their way through players hearts.
They had to focus on the negatives of the competition, whining, shitting, staying still features-wise and just buy and buy exclusives.
How come could they pay so much for games and couldn't make a more competitive store and a competitive marketing stand? Can someone explain how that is possible?
If they had said "We hear you, we're working on these features, we want you to feel great here, and we want you to choose what's best, and everyone to win".
Then back it up with steady, visible improvements.
Would that have beaten Steam? Who knows. But it could have built a store people were excited to support.
Really incredible how people just throw money at things and fail at the basics. That’s the frustrating part. Epic had something positive to sell, and they just sold everyone a kind of pathetic fight against their competitor.

En dicha oportunidad, el coronel Ricchieri, ministro de Guerra, instituyó para su disputa ecuménica el trofeo que se convirtió en el más preciado de la comunidad mundial del tiro deportivo: La "Copa Argentina", al tiempo que el general Bartolomé Mitre cerraba el discurso inaugural de la competencia con estas palabras: "Todo ciudadano de un pueblo libre que tenga el instinto de conservación debe saber manejar un arma de guerra, con ojo certero, brazo firme y corazón sereno, para defender la paz, sostener su independencia y mantener el orden público; porque las balas puestas en el blanco de tiro, que no matan a nadie, aseguran estos grandes y vitales bienes".
Durante el certamen, el equipo argentino de revólver a 25 metros obtuvo el Campeonato Mundial, integrado, entre otros tiradores, por Marcelo T. de Alvear, futuro presidente de la Nación, Jorge Lubary y el Dr. Benjamín H. Segura, quien en la competencia individual se consagró como el primer Campeón Mundial de la disciplina.
