'Segata Sanshirō Shinken Yūgi' released on this day in 1998.
When it came time to create a game around the Saturn's mascot, there was only one choice for its developer in Sega's mind: Ecole Software -- the same studio behind the platform's most infamous title, 'Death Crimson.'
The whole package (a minigame / TV commercial compilation) is presented quite self-awarely, being a love letter to a piece of marketing kitsch. Clearly, it was developed with die-hard Saturn enthusiasts in mind -- folk who would recognize Ecole's involvement as an inside joke.
For more on the Ecole Software story and how they came to develop their reputation as Sega's worst developer, might we recommend our own comprehensive article on their most infamous game, 'Death Crimson? badgamehalloffame.com/death-…
'Trespasser' released on this day in 1998.
Massively innovative and deeply flawed in equal measure. Barely able to run on computers of its era, due to a myriad of technical issues and high system requirements. Might be the most novel / compelling licensed tie-in of all time?
For anyone curious to see Trespasser in action, you can survey our archeological dig (full playthrough of the game) here: youtube.com/watch?v=Xiz3_Pdt…
'Shaq Fu' released on this day in 1994.
Looking to leverage the popularity of Shaquille O'Neal, but not to compete against their own upcoming basketball titles, Electronic Arts landed on the only logical compromise: A one-on-one fantasy fighting game. Infamy soon followed.
You can get the full post-game presser here, in our comprehensive article detailing the history of its development and its rise to bad game infamy: badgamehalloffame.com/shaq-f…

'Castlevania: The Adventure' released on this day in 1989.
Castlevania's first Game Boy outing hadn't quite been whipped into shape before release; between pixel-perfect platforming, cruel power-down mechanics, and sluggish performance. What a horrible night to have a handheld.
You can watch us play through this accursed adventure in full in our "Castlevania Curios Collection" episode: youtube.com/watch?v=k4Ql940F…
'Hoshi Wo Miru Hito' released on this day in 1987.
Perhaps the most infamous RPG of the Famicom era, and renowned as "Densetsu no Kusoge" ("Legendary Shit Game") in its native Japan. Travel through walls, over oceans, and eventually into space in this utterly lawless adventure.
ou can watch our playthrough of the game here, presented in loving memory of @destroyed4com4t: youtube.com/watch?v=slgIkKso…
'Cheesy' released on this day in 1996.
An oddball 2.5D platformer for the PS1 (originally intended for the Atari Jaguar), starring a stressed-out mouse with a gun for an arm. Released to negative reviews, mostly honing in on its poor controls and pesky perspective issues.
We'd be downright cheesed if you watched our full, commentated playthrough of the game here: youtube.com/watch?v=93F6VdzQ…
'Blackwater' released on this day in 2011.
An utterly shameless propaganda piece developed on behalf of the world's most notorious PMC (who'd rebranded before the game launched). Controlled by means of the Kinect, further adding to the tactical realism of committing war crimes.
Our October edition of "F(r)ight Night" is up now on YouTube! Will our combatants survive this assortment of slap-em-ups, or will they succumb to the spookiness? youtu.be/HT9HY3-MF3c
'Skyscraper' released on this day in 2008.
A budget FPS take on 'Die Hard' with a vision-impaired chemist dweeb for a protagonist, by way of the developers behind 'Beverly Hills Cop' on PS2 -- published by no less than shovelware titans Midas Interactive.
Tuck into a slice of cake and tune in to our full playthrough here. Be warned that you might accidentally wind up finding this game charming: youtube.com/playlist?list=PL…
'Legendary' released on this day in 2008.
One of a small handful of titles published by the short-lived Gamecock Media Group. An FPS which pits you against mythological creatures, dismally muddy visuals, and an endless procession of mindless combat encounters.
You can open up Pandora's Box and watch our playthrough here: youtube.com/playlist?list=PL…
