BlueChip. Built in America. America made the first electronic computer to win a war. Now we depend on our greatest adversaries to build the computers that run our economy and defend our nation. Today, we bring it home.

When I had Erin Brockovich on the Shawn Ryan Show, we took a deep dive into data centers and their impact on our water supply, power grid, and ecosystems. After watching that conversation, Baiju Bhatt, my guest on episode #223, reached out with a potential solution. What if we don’t need to build data centers on Earth at all? I joined Baiju for a live conversation about his latest venture, Cowboy Space, and his plan to put AI data centers in orbit. We explored the technology behind that vision, the challenges of making it a reality, and how moving computing infrastructure into space could help meet growing demand without putting more strain on the resources we depend on here at home. @BaijuBhatt @CowboySpaceCorp

Introducing the Big Iron -- a megawatt of compute per launch.

Exactly
People should build more launch vehicles. There is an enormous sucking sound from the market that justifies many many efforts on this front. Orbital compute will be >one trillion $ per year capex spend by 2035. There will be more than one launch company serving this. It’s not too late to get in the game, now is the time to build launch! 💪

Making the 13 year old version of myself proud
T-1 day until Reason-1 heads to orbit aboard a @SpaceX Falcon 9. Once in orbit, our first mission will attempt something no commercial spacecraft has done before: power on a kilowatt-class laser in space. CEO @BaijuBhatt and COO @JoeYaffe with Reason-1 before its journey.

Introducing Reason-1. Our first mission. The work began at Aetherflux. Now, as Cowboy Space, we’re carrying that mission forward. It has shipped to SpaceX ahead of its scheduled October 1 launch. Its job is to prove out power beaming: using a high-power laser to transfer energy from low Earth orbit to a receiver on the ground. If you want to build data centers in space, you have to master the optical systems between orbit and Earth. This is where that journey begins. Enormous credit to our engineers for getting Reason-1 built and out the door. Stay tuned for updates.
