I've been going through some old emails from Ray prior to starting research and finding some gems that are worth sharing. "Since practically every function has multiple levels of control, I think many seemingly permanent problems can be corrected by prolonged support and the right kind of stimulation. Last night I was thinking about a very stupid gene-deterministic statement of Jacques Monod’s, and saw that reversing his language, calling a particular environment a “template,” might be a way to talk to the rigidly mechanistic gene-minded people. After I read Broda Barnes’ books, I had some hypothyroid people check their temperature, and on hot humid summer days I saw that, despite all their other signs, their temperature was almost normal; that was when I started checking their heart rates, too. In hot humid weather, it takes very little metabolism to keep the temperature up. Later, I had a friend with manic episodes, and found that as her hours of sleep decreased preceding an episode, her waking temperature increased. During an episode, she would wake up with a 98.6 temperature, but by 11 a.m. it would fall to 97. That made me realize the need to consider adrenaline and cortisol, which increase during the night, countering falling thyroid function. Checking hand (and foot) temperature can help to judge adrenaline—a hypothyroid person with high adrenaline can have a normal oral temperature, but with very cold hands and feet. I was 31 when I started grad school in biology, 35 when I finished. By that age I had learned to accept that most professors are useless dorks, and to be able to work around it."

He also started talking about benefits of Red Light in From PMS to menopause in the 90s whilst observing interest in light spectrums and respiratory pigments back in the 60s.
#raypeat talking about benefits of wearing orange lens glasses in 2002. 👌#bluelightblockers

I think idiots use the term sugar water as they are too lazy to read the positive research.
Orange juice is not a health food. It's sugar water with a good publicist. One 8 oz glass = about 20 grams of sugar. That's 5 sugar cubes. And about half of that is fructose, the same sugar we're blaming for the fatty liver epidemic in kids. No fiber. No protein. No fat. Just sugar water with a pinch of vitamin C... Eat an orange if you must. Better yet, eat some eggs. Carbs are optional & not needed.

So is the case against sugar...
Great post. The case against saturated fat is actually this stupid.

I get just as many people buying gelatin over collagen these days. It’s cheaper and if you think about it so much closer too it’s natural state. Some just like the ease of dropping collagen in their drinks but if you wait a few minutes for gelatin to bloom it’s a winner
I've migrated from eating cooked beef tendon over to this beef gelatin powder brand Saves room and time in the Instant Pot for more prioritized organ meat cooking 40-60 g of weighed beef gelatin powder sprinkled on meals throughout the day

I reckon it's just cutting out shiity grains more than anything else. Still eat carbs but restrict grains and see how you feel? Also punch up a gear with glycine/gelatin/collagen.
Why so many carnivores notice better joints Cartilage ages mainly through glycation. Collagen in joint cartilage has a half-life measured in decades (estimates up to ~100 years in some tissues). Once formed, the cross-links from advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) stick around. The result is stiffer, less resilient cartilage that doesn’t glide or absorb load the way it used to. Most of those AGEs form endogenously from circulating glucose and reactive dicarbonyls, not from the meat on your plate. Beef supplies a direct countermeasure: carnosine. This dipeptide is concentrated in muscle and acts as a sacrificial scavenger. It reacts with methylglyoxal and other carbonyls that would otherwise bind lysine and arginine residues on collagen, reducing new AGE cross-links and protein carbonylation. Human data show carnosine supplementation lowers circulating AGE markers and improves glucose handling in people with diabetes. Eating the actual muscle delivers the compound in its natural matrix along with the protein and fat that support stable blood sugar. On a carnivore diet two things happen at once. Endogenous glycation pressure drops because glucose stays lower and more stable, and you continuously supply carnosine that mops up the reactive intermediates that do form. That combination plausibly slows the progressive stiffening of cartilage that most people accept as normal aging. It is not magic or a cure for advanced structural damage, but it is a coherent explanation for the repeated reports of less pain, better mobility, and fewer “old joints” once people stop eating the foods that keep glucose elevated all day.

Please ask him to stop my ears are bleeding. But I suppose if you only have a hammer (low carb) all you see is nails (sugar). Siggggghhh
There are essential fatty acids and essential amino acids. There is no essential carbohydrate. The body does need some glucose, mainly for red blood cells, which have no mitochondria. But the liver and kidneys can make all of it through gluconeogenesis, typically around 100 to 150 grams a day in adults, using lactate, glycerol from fat, and a small amount of amino acids. Carb tolerance still varies a lot from person to person, and my new book, The Carb Crisis, explains why. The evidence is clear: carbs are optional, not required. Preorder link in the first reply.

Why is the low resting heart rate science not as solid as Bryan thinks? Because studies do not delineate between a compensatory strategy of failing biology versus optimal biology. So a low heart rate compared to heart rates between 70-90 beats per minute in healthy individuals doesn't automatically mean increased longevity or better sleep. For example in centenarians measured mean resting heart rate was 72 beats per minute. Similar to average young adult resting heart rate. Additionally, if you are really putting your resting heart rate on your dating profile there's probably a reason why you are single.
Resting heart is the new thirst trap It’s the sexiest thing about you Since 2021 I’ve posted about RHR: > 207 times > generating 366,220 likes > 78.3 million views > these numbers are X only Now it’s a mainstream symbol of high status People will adopt something if it helps them get access to sex, money or power. Resting heart rate before bed was my first big aha moment in my health quest. I discovered that it was the single number to rule all other numbers. RHR is the composite number for food, exercise, stress, routine, discipline, nervous systems, mood and more. It’s endlessly useful. I had to break RHR out of esoteric health and into status and social signaling. RHR needed to represent a person’s youth and vibrancy and signal genetic fitness. So I hit the topic from more than ten angles: > masculinity > cognitive performance > fertility > sexual health > discipline > will power > judgement > health > peer status > values > rebellion against status quo Others saw the social leverage and started working on their RHR to post. Press started picking it up, putting my name and resting heart rate in the headline. The science behind a lower resting heart rate is solid. It is a composite health marker of a person’s biological vitality. If you’re new to resting heart rate, here is a quick guide. Health is confusing, and overwhelming. But your heart makes things really easy. > a low resting heart rate before bed is good > a high resting heart rate before bed is bad If my RHR is 41 before bed, a perfect night sleep awaits: + asleep in less than five min + 4 hr of restorative sleep + 0 to 1 wake events + awake no more than 20 minutes That's the 99% percentile sleep performance for an 18 year old. As you age, it's increasingly harder to sleep. If you’re sleep is good, life is good. So here is where you can start: + finish all food 4 hours before bed + screens off 30-60 min before bed + finish caffeine around noon + avoid blue light, use red and amber instead + read a book before bed + have a 30-60 min wind down routine including walking, journaling, breath work meditation, talking to friends, a chill hobby, etc. Do these things and I promise every part of your life will improve.

Unless you actually require sugar and then you crave sugar more. Do yourself a favour….. understand why sugar is not the problem.

There’s nothing wrong with eating thyroid gland or taking T4 or T3. You just need to understand dosing. Always start small and add gradually. Had a client that didn’t listen to me and took a whole bottle of Tyromax once over a week.RHR of 150 bpm for a day, then stopped, 110 the next and below 100 the day after. Metabolically inflexible folk would suffer if they got this wrong. Luckily she was only 30 and listened after that.
A 19-year-old bought a raw cow thyroid online and ate about half of it. His resting heart rate hit 140, and he spent a week in hospital. Moral of the story: don't eat thyroid gland. That's how our Thyroid Special starts. Out now 👇

As TSH increases so does thyroid cancer. “ indicating that reducing serum TSH level has a positive effect on reducing the incidence of thyroid cancer, thus there is a close relationship between the two.” sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

This is quite common.
This is the third or fourth time I've tested a high fat, meat based diet and the last. My body just does not like it! 😳 The higher the fat, the higher my glucose and insulin, more inflammation, more and more pain in my body. No energy. Heavy tired legs. Never again will I eat a high fat carnivore diet. 😅 Animal based. - fruit, animal products, raw milk, low fat is where I feel my best and where my metabolic markers are best. So now for a gradual introduction of fruit and a lowering of the fat. 🍉🍇🍑🥩🥚 Sorry if my experience doesn't align with yours. We don't have the same body - obviously.... Four and a half years of experience and experiments have shown this to be true again and again. I thought I'd give it one more try now that my bowel can handle the high fat, but the other results were still the same. 🙄 Gradually increasing my pain, inflammation, misery... 🥹

"Both benign and malignant thyroid tumors are 3–4 times more prevalent in females than in males. After menopause, the incidence decreases again. Menstrual and reproductive history and use of exogenous sex hormones may play a role in the etiology of thyroid cancer among women." Less oral contraceptive exposure?

I think one of the important considerations with Omega 3 is that estrogens increase DHA. In a world where environmental estrogens are a plenty, the increase of N3/6s may facilitate excess oxidation. "HT increased RBC concentrations of the terminal n–3 and n–6 PUFAs (DHA and DPA n–6). These findings are consistent with an estrogen-induced increase in DHA and DPA n–6" pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/article…

Carbohydrates are not just for body builders either.
Creatine is not just for bodybuilders. Older adults who lift and take creatine gain more muscle and strength than those who only lift. The usual dose is 3 to 5 grams a day. I'd treat creatine as a basic habit for anyone over 50 who lifts. And if you're not lifting yet, then just start there.
