UPDATE: It appears @tether has unfrozen THORChain addresses. Trading/etc will resume soon

It seems @tayvano_ claimed that @1inch “did not keep the fees earned from Bitget exploiter swapping via 1inch”.
Can @1inch, @laurashin, @Unchained_pod confirm with on-chain receipts pls?
Or is Tay lying through her teeth again, as usual?

"But I don't want to profit from North Korean laundering money via the service that I provide, that would be a concern for me."
@laurashin now that you know you do profit from "north korea" are you willing to send 1inch money back to bitget? Will you drop them as a sponsor?

I hereby call upon @laurashin to have @Unchained_pod (and partners, shareholders etc) return advertising revenue from @1inch as it directly profited from the Bitget hack

In a debate with security expert Taylor Monahan on Unchained, THORChain co-founder Chad Barraford said he would "have a conversation" with the protocol's Treasury about returning part of the developer fund's income from the Bitget hack.

very intelligent answer
also, go back to the three rules of DAObotics from Stan Larimer
a global stoppage is 'to protect the protocol' as Avishay says here--not 3rd parties
that is exactly what one would expect from the three laws of DAObotics...
you can do a halt to protect the protocol (law #3), but you can't just arbitrarily rewrite the rules already embedded in the software (laws #1, #2); those laws trump law #3 . . .
so every particular act of censorship within a DAO would require robust governance, extremely impractical
moreover, having this as a policy would actually be the opposite of protecting the DAO's existence, since it opens massive DoS attack vectors and weakens economic security...
I think @CBarraford addressed your questions well. I know this is more of a policy and governance question, but as a security partner to @THORChain, we at Soda Labs can confirm two things: there is no centralized way to halt the system, and as of today there is no mechanism to ban addresses from swapping.
Nodes can pause the network: any single node can trigger a short global pause, and a few node votes can halt trading on a chain.
First, this is a very short time halt (1h) and can be overrun by other nodes. Second, network-wide emergency tools were built to protect the protocol, not to filter individual swaps or addresses. Otherwise it would be very easy to mount a DoS, which would impact many legitimate users.
And even if there were a way for nodes to ban specific addresses, it would rarely stop hacked funds from moving across these rails. Nodes would follow orders from their own jurisdictions, and those orders never come in real time.

You mentioned that THORChain does money laundering during this stream like 10+ times @laurashin
When you push narratives like that, can you at least try to keep definitions right, pls
"Money laundering is the process of illegally concealing the origin of money"
@THORChain doesn't conceal or obfuscate anything. In fact, the opposite. All transactions can be tracked and traced onchain
THORChain cofounder Chad Barraford reacts to a Chinese crime syndicate recommending THORChain to ZachXBT for money laundering
Laura: "Today, ZachXBT released an investigation in which he went undercover and exposed a Chinese crime syndicate that laundered the $1.5 billion in Bybit funds. And in his conversation with this guy, Jimmy, at some point, Jimmy suggests to Zach that Zach can also get into the money laundering business, and he messages Zach and he says, quote, 'Think you can do it too. All you need is Thor cross chain.'"
"So how do you feel about that? That this Chinese crime syndicate is recommending that he use THORChain to get into the business of money laundering."
Chad: "So THORChain is not a money laundering service, right? There's no obfuscation of information whatsoever. When you trade from Ethereum to Bitcoin, it is clear text to everybody in real time of where that money is going from and where it's going to."
"THORChain doesn't do mixing of any kind. That makes no sense. You can make the same argument about, like, well, you should become a Bitcoin miner because you could make the argument in any decentralized protocol. What's the difference?"
Taylor: "I mean, I'll also say the reason that we met Jimmy was because of the THORChain Discord. Literally, the money launderers are in the THORChain Discord."
Chad: "Yeah. And I'm sure the people on, like, Silk Road were in the IRCs or the Bitcoin forum, right? Like, that's not indicative of anything other than just a diverse community around it."

Based THORChain.
True decentralization is binary.
I love Near Intents and will continue to use their incredible product but you can’t in good faith call them permissionless.
A THORChain network halt is an emergency security mechanism designed to protect the protocol.
A halt is not a selective freeze of specific funds or an individual swap.
During the May 2026 exploit that resulted in $10.7M stolen from the liquidity pools, the attackers addresses were never blacklisted and therefore never prevented from swapping on THORChain.
THORChain is permissionless and doesn't censor by design. It's a neutral public good/tool as described by @mperklin in the post below.

Our co-founder @CBarraford will be live with @laurashin today at 3:20PM ET.
THORChain nodes paused their own network for five weeks after a $10.7M exploit in May. They declined Bitget's request to halt flows from a $387.5M hack. @cbarraford and @tayvano_ debate whether that's principle or a fee decision, live with @laurashin .

Yes, but:
1) Anyone who ever feels wronged by Near intents could now sue them. There is clear precedence that they have both the ability and the desire to decide what’s a good transaction and what’s a bad one. This will happen.
2) Any judge, law enforcement official, or prosecutor who wants to go after Near Intents (or its governors and participants) for facilitating illicit use can do so and accuse them of conspiracy or aiding and abetting. This will happen. (They went after Roman for a system he didn’t even control)
3) Any government that imposes sanctions will now expect near intents to enforce them. This will happen.
4) Any hacker (enabled by a frontier model) can now target Near Intents as it has demonstrated centralized controls.
You could argue all of this is tolerable or even “worth it”. That’s a reasonable argument. But why bother with the decentralization theater? Just build a fully permissioned system and do KYC.
No such thing as a system that’s only trustless when things go well.
In the last 48 hours, @near_intents:
> Detected and blocked stolen funds from an exchange hack
> Got exploited, patched within hours. $3.8M lost, all being refunded
CEX hacks (~$5B) and bridge exploits (~$3.7B) have been the two worst loss vectors in crypto.
Refreshing to see a team take ownership of crypto's biggest weakness.

She platformed repeated false claims while ignoring multiple public offers from TC devs to join the discussion for accuracy.

took ~20min to come to understand one another --
@THORChain comm. 🤝 @NEARProtocol comm ❤️, that is, at least between individual community members. We together want, support, and demand honesty from leaders and for accurate industry definitions to be portrayed.
@AlexAuroraDev @GracyBitget so, knowing this, and seeing agreement among my own guerilla party & NEAR's guerilla party, if I'm telling you that any attempt to..
1. use further divisiveness between our respective encampments as leverage to forward your own machinations, then I've got news for you, Gracy.. there is solidarity and can be more, and you will not succeed in entrenching your scapegoating negligence in the opposing camp. The power of handshakes compels you.
2. continue to push legally false opinions as bona fide "definitions" of 'decentralization' and 'permissionless' as it pertains to modern systems in the digital asset industry.. definitions pushed in a way that aren't even actually supported by your own encampment/who you think supports your headgames..
if either of you continue to do this, why? and who are you trying save? the machinations only become more apparent by the day, any of you further continue to try to manipulate public collective mind, then I will continue to counter you two-fold at each turn. just going to have to manually continue correcting your own sins through goodwilled handshakes.
Knock off the bullshit.
A. Gracy - quit the smear campaign. You've lost. Focus on improving your own thing, actuall y. It was your fault.
B. Alex - I haven't had the opportunity yet, but pls consider reassessing and editing the "Our Stance on Hacks" section of your article. The alternative definition(s) you offer for industry terms is, I'll just say, inadvisable, from a legal precedent standpoint. A single individual writing a half post-mortem / half op-ed thing is not some manifesto where you can singlehandedly change how an industry's historicocultural mind understands the terms of long-established socioeconomic/polysci terms. Now if you're to respond by saying something to the effect of, "I never said we were decentralized.. we only ever said, 'we believe in these systems'," then you're right, and you'd probably have sufficient defense there but I couldn't imagine your community would be very happy with such a response.
Anyway, just knock it off. Both of you, stop trying to save face by trying to influence submarkets and cultural mind by trying to avoid the bad and pitting one "he-said,she-said." While we the community members stand in solidarity with one another for truth and integrity in this industry. Deliver that.
I believe a public campaign should be made against companies like @bitget and @NEARProtocol for misappropriating ‘decentralization terms’ to describe company behaviors and acts that are well and commonly and historically understood in the broader financial industry to be centralized in nature, and defined by institutional authority.
By such intentioned acts to adopt decentralization language to describe behaviors that fall within the authoritative purview of centralized institutions, I claim these companies are knowingly and deliberately misleading investors and users, and should be called to cease using such language, or be held accountable for doing so.
You cannot target wallets and freeze withdrawals and claim a decentralization ethos. That’s industry blasphemy. Don’t let this become acceptable, CT. This is important.

Honey bunch, I appreciate your efforts to emulate today’s global leaders by just saying logically asinine things and hoping they stick thru either a. a critical mass of willing collective blindness or apathy (enough to just settle for a dumb cunt in charge), or b. having enough firepower to extinguish all light of intelligence that challenges your backwards ass falsities.
I know you’ve been working so hard for (b) , of which I’m referring to your smear campaign against THORChain. I know you want it to work so badly, but darling, you dearest dumb cunt, ‘permissionless’ will never mean what you just said it can mean. You aren’t powerful enough to bend language like that, and for you to think you could, that you actually have that kind of leverage of agency, my dearest out-of-your-depth dumbo, is, well, pathetic to watch. And I’m sure your board is wincing in embarrassment for you like we all are.
I guess, good try? but jeeshy petes, GL with not just keeping up that smear campaign dear. Bc now the whole industry knows you’re retarded. Also, GL w everything post-bitget for you. For your sake, may your board remove you swiftly and quietly 🙏 I pray this grace for you, you dumbass girl.

Halt ≠ Censorship
The same line keeps coming up: "@THORChain halted before, so why not now?"
Because they are NOT the same thing:
> A halt responds to a situation and treats every wallet the same.
> Censorship singles out specific wallets.
A halt is a brake on the system.
Censorship makes someone the gatekeeper.
Repeating the script doesn't make them the same.
The @bitget hack has reopened the censorship debate around @THORChain.
This map tracks the stolen funds moving through THORChain, all out in the open.
THORChain is permissionless, so anyone can swap. But it's a DEX, not a mixer. Every hop through THORChain stays traceable.
Feel for everyone caught in this. They deserve to be made whole.
