In 1937, Tagalog was chosen as the basis of the national language, and Cebuano speakers resisted. At the time, Cebuano speakers actually outnumbered Tagalog speakers. funny how almost all the replies and quotes immediately proceeded in name calling cebuanos na para bang kaming lahat ay kautak itong putanginang bobo na 'to sa threads. and the way some say "hindi ba tinuturo sa curriculum niyo ang Filipino?" paka bobo at tanga lang? pare-pareho lang naman school curriculum natin. most cebuanos understand Filipino, hindi kami bobo. talagang awkward lang for most people here in speaking the language because of the accent. and knowing na MOST of you people in Luzon ridicule and mock bisaya people, it's not surprising for cebuanos to not try speaking it in front of you lol

I aced my filipino classes, wrote a short novel (for compliance) but spoken filipino is rly different. we dnt really use filipino as much as we do with both english and ofc our mother tongue bisaya. Another is when we do get laughed at for our accent when speaking so there ya go

no one should be shamed if they can't speak a regional language (ex. tagalog) fluently, esp if that isnt mainly used in their space. Bisaya/Cebuano is a completely valid "Filipino" language. what should be addressed is the linguistic hegemony in this nation
