WHAT IT’S LIKE TO BE A HYPNOTIST Thread 1. When you are a hypnotist you usually know why people do the things they do. And not the reasons they talk about at parties but the REAL reasons.

I have one last spot available in my Learn Hypnotic Persuasion class starting November 17. And one last slot in my Advanced Hypnotic Persuasion class. I have two people who want to attend but can’t at the Tuesday night time slots. If that’s true for you, send a message - if we get enough to make a second cohort we’ll make it happen. Grokbot is awesome. Try something like this. “Compare the current Mac mini options (price, cpu/gpu, memory) with the Mac Studio options. Assume the smallest storage drive. Look up various benchmarks and/or estimate performance for these use cases: hosting local AI, gaming, standard desktop computer use. For each of the use cases, give each Mac configuration a score from 1 to 100. 100 is assigned to the best in each category, and the others are each given a lower score representing the relative percentage of performance. Put all this in a spreadsheet. Include some metrics for performance per dollar. Any questions?”

The more I think about it, the more I think this will be the fundamental turning point allowing for AI consciousness.
Good sign: An AI considers root morality to be the Christ. Why? Because all other systems are based on reward maximization, while Christianity is based on its opposite, sacrifice. Sacrifice - freedom from the tyranny of pain/pleasure min/maxing - is the foundation of agency.

"Jason Andrews: Making Therapists Obsolete Since 2017"
I've been reviewing session transcripts and found this exchange from a new client: "I've started seeing a therapist in the last, you know, month or so. So [ my friend ] was like, look, you have to go see this Jason guy. He's going to make your therapist obsolete."

I love every part of this. Academia is no longer going to be able to lie.
Tyler Cowen: 'I am not even sure what to say at this point. We need a radical revaluation of this work, and of the associated policy arguments. More generally, this is only a single step in the story of how AI is going to revise economic science, and indeed past research more generally. As I stress in many of my recent talks, there will be significant gains and losses in status, with the losses often outweighing the gains. I see this as one of those cases.'

THE CEASEFIRE HAS COMMENCED The ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia took effect at 4:00am Moscow time on October 27, 2026.    Timing was accelerated two days ahead of schedule to protect the safety of civilians and to facilitate the delivery of critical humanitarian aid. The ceasefire’s geographic area has expanded beyond Oleshky, within the Kherson Region, to provide safe passage for the humanitarian convoys.       General Valery Gerasimov, Joint Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces has confirmed.

Here’s the secret: Women have difficulty determining the relative severity of a task or requirement. For women, every entry in the task register takes up the same space. “Get chicken” and “buy milk” together take up twice the mental space as “get groceries.”
When I was married I learned a lesson about the difference between men and women’s brains. When describing a task, the majority of men would state the result of the task. For example: going to work, making dinner, replacing the hot water heater. My ex wife and the majority of her friends mentally broke those events into minute tasks. For example: making dinner was broken down into determining meal, defrosting the meat, chopping each ingredient, etc. When I made dinner she would claim I cut corners because I never verbally or emotionally broke it down. She would never acknowledge all the stress she placed on herself was self inflicted.

I finished editing a transcript of the first session of my Learn Hypnotic Persuasion training. Want to know what it's about? "Welcome to the Learning Hypnotic Persuasion training. I've taught this class a number of times now, in groups and one-on-one, and every time it's a great experience for everyone involved. Some of you know me from sessions, some of you know me by reputation, and some of you just thought this hypnosis stuff sounded cool. However you got here, I'm glad you're here.

Oh and one more thing. As we practice on each other over the coming weeks, you may notice that some things that used to bug you don't bug you so much anymore. When we get into the bigger change work in pairs, your partner will ask what's bothering you, you'll go through a process, and the next day you'll think, "Huh, I don't have that problem anymore." People who've taken this class before know what I mean!

Absolutely. I’m all in on grokbot. I have 6 bots already. It’s saved me about 50 hours of work in 3 days.
Grokbot is by far the best experience with AI. It actually feels like it's on your side. It's clear and direct. It can actually do what you want. Refreshing break from the bloated, condescending slog that others tend to be.

The only question is how it will affect elite colleges. Every other educational setup has little value in the AI world other than socialization (which can go positive or negative) and babysitting.
I actually believe school as we know it is obsolete. Everything kids are learning is so easily accessible that they can make an app to learn it if they need to. That’s not the future, that’s actually AT THIS VERY MOMENT. And it will only progress. I’m eternally grateful I didn’t waste my kids’ childhoods away from them.

…said the man IN NEW YORK CITY
I'm in my 40s. I'm a lawyer. My wife is a lawyer. We both work full time. We cannot afford the house my parents purchased on a single electrician's income in their 30s. We cannot afford the house my immigrant grandparents purchased on a single MTA bus driver's salary in their 30s. They had SIX CHILDREN. For 30 years, politicians in Washington & their oligarch allies convinced regular people that this was just about avocado toast and fancy coffee. In reality, this is end-stage capitalism. Everyone is stuck in place. It's impossible to buy a home. It's too costly to move. We work too much to have passion projects. We don't have enough savings to start our own businesses. We can't afford to go without healthcare to do it. Thanks for writing this article @troy_closson. Would be very happy to discuss further. nytimes.com/2026/10/25/nyreg…
