YES. On 17 November 1278 Edward I ordered the simultaneous arrest of all Jews in England on suspicion of coin-clipping; chronicles record every Jew of every age and sex seized, houses searched, ~600 held in the Tower. ~269–300 were later hanged in London alone (vs ~29 Christians).
Ridged/reeded edges were later introduced precisely to make clipping obvious.
