Today is a great and historic day for Somalia. I welcome the Upper House’s approval of the Bill establishing the National Meteorological and Climate Services Agency. This is a major step towards strengthening our weather climate services & building a more climate-resilient nation
1/2 I met with H.E. Prime Minister @HamzaAbdiBarre to brief him on the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change’s ongoing work and Somalia’s preparations for COP31, including national climate priorities and planned initiatives.
I had a productive side meeting with Ms. Elizabeth Maruma Mrema of @UNEP on the margins of COP12 of the Nairobi Convention. We discussed Somalia’s priorities for marine and coastal protection, climate resilience and advancing our Blue Economy.
In Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, I am heading Somalia’s delegation at COP12 of the Nairobi Convention. We are engaging on regional cooperation, protection of marine and coastal resources, climate change impacts, and advancing Somalia’s Blue Economy agenda.
Today in Galkayo, I launched the Green Schools Campaign, expanding our environmental action beyond Mogadishu. Schools are where we can nurture a generation that protects nature, plants trees and takes action for a greener, cleaner and more sustainable Somalia.
Today in Gaalkacyo, I cast my vote in Galmudug’s One Person, One Vote election. I commend citizens exercising their constitutional right and call on all to protect peace, respect the vote, and uphold the democratic process. History is being written.👇🏽
Today in Gaalkacyo, I opened a coordination meeting on Early-to-Early Action and preparedness for El Niño 2026. We discussed turning climate forecasts and early warnings into timely action to protect communities, livelihoods, agriculture and infrastructure.
I warmly welcome the House of the People’s approval of the Environmental Management Bill, with 140 votes in favor and none against or abstaining. This is a significant step toward protecting Somalia’s environment, natural resources and building a resilient, sustainable future.
Met with the Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation Committee of the Federal Parliament to discuss UNCLOS, protecting Somalia’s marine environment, and sustainable use of marine resources. We agreed to accelerate preparations and strengthen technical cooperation.
